Hembree Highlights
February 9, 2024
Message from Ms. Lahey
Wow!! It was great to see so many of you at our "Hawks Take Flight" event. It means so much to me to see our families engaged in our school activities, so thank you for supporting Hembree and your children.
Our annual perception survey will be opening soon. It is very important for the parent community to participate in this survey. Your participation directly impacts our CCRPI score for the school. I will be sending out communication once it is open and I would greatly appreciate your participation.
We are looking forward to staff appreciation next week. Our fabulous PTA has a great week planned for our staff.
Student Illness
We are experiencing an increased number of students getting sick with cold and flu-like symptoms. Please remember that students should be fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication before sending students to school. We disinfect our school every day to prevent the spread of germs. Please read the attachment below for more information. Thanks in advance for helping our school stay safe and healthy.
Please see the note below from our district regarding Valentine's Day.
Dear Parents or Guardians,
As we approach Valentine’s Day, it is important to ensure that all homemade candy, desserts, baked goods, or other edible items are not to be sold or distributed during school hours, and that appropriate store-bought items are delivered to the administration. Please know that taking this measure will help us maintain a safe environment for all students with allergies, etc. You can help us protect your student(s) by requesting that they not eat anything given to them by another person, anything that they have not brought from your home or anything not in its original sealed package.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping all of our students safe at school!
Have a great and relaxing weekend!
Sincerely,
Nancy Lahey

From Our Literacy Coach, Mrs. Mizzell
Monitor Meaning: The first step is read to your children at home but make it fun! ALL elementary children should be read to, from picture books to chapter books. Just because your child is in 4th or 5th grade does not mean they are too old to be read to. Take turns reading pages/chapters. While reading to your child, occasionally pause and explain your understanding of what is happing in the story. This modeling will teach children how to think about books on their own, and how to check that they are understanding the story. Ask your children questions about the characters' actions, the events in the story, the underlying message the author wants you to learn, and connections to other texts or experiences. Remember that our Media Center is available for both parents and students to check out books. Looking for additional supports? To check out additional resources, please reach out to Lucy Gilbert, Title I Parent Liaison, gilbertl2@fultonschools.org
Silent Auction Donations Needed
The PTA is gearing up for its biggest fundraiser of the year -- our silent auction. It's going live beginning of March. And we need your support! Maybe you own a small business, are a creator, teach lessons or have a service you can offer? Do you have season tickets to a venue? A vacation rental, perhaps? Or, you could have awesome connections to some local places. These would all be great things to put before bidders and raise money for a host of important school programs. Get in touch with us and we're happy to discuss! Email Sara Fuchs at sfuchs@gmail.com.
We are also looking for items to go in grade-level baskets that will be featured in the auction. Each grade level is creating a basket again this year for our Silent Auction Fundraiser. This is a wonderful and fun way to contribute to our fundraising goals. Last year, our Auction made just over $4,000 to fund the Teacher Grants program through the PTA! Each grade has a separate signup link, but please feel free to donate to any basket you like.
Any items donated for the basket must be unopened. Please be sure not to include anything that needs to be refrigerated or is perishable within a few days - these baskets will not be auctioned off until March.
If you would like to make a monetary contribution to help with our baskets, please do so here:
https://hembreespringselementary.memberhub.com/store/items/48153
On the donation form, be sure to note that it is for the Silent Auction fundraiser.
Please bring in all donations by Friday, February 16th, labeled with the following:
● Silent Auction Donation
● Your Name and/or Student’s Name
● Grade
● The basket theme the donation is for
We are so grateful for all of your help!
