NOVEMBER 22, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
SLPHS families,
Thanksgiving arrives tomorrow and there is no school the rest of this week - Thursday, November 23 or Friday, November 24.
Today, I’m thinking about how I get to walk the halls each day and visit classrooms full of promising students engaging with talented educators. I am grateful for the passion of our student body and the compassion and creativity modeled by our staff each day. I am thankful for an engaged and committed community who show up with support and partnership – like when we build a house in the parking lot and people just come by and offer to help.
A few nights ago, I was grateful to be a part of this community when Superintendent Ronneberg and I attended the city council’s work session. We were there to advocate for the return of our school resource officer. The Anoka County attorney shared with the council that he views our high school as a shining star in the county for our overall environment and how we work with law enforcement. This isn’t something we take for granted, and it was nice to hear. I hope to have more information to share soon after the city takes action on this topic.
As we near the end of the this first Trimester, I am grateful for partnership with families. After Thanksgiving weekend, we return for the last week of the trimester. We wrap up the trimester on November 30. There is no school Friday, December 1 or Monday December 4. Teachers will be doing assessment and reporting work and professional learning and design before the second trimester begins on December 5. Let’s help our children finish this trimester strong.
I look forward to seeing students after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend on Monday, November 27 refreshed, carb-loaded, and ready to engage with vigor and focus for the final days of Trimester 1.
Happy Thanksgiving to the entire SLP Schools community.
Grateful,
Matthew Boucher

Career and College Pathways visitors
Our Career and College Pathways Program has been buzzing with energy this fall thanks to the many community and industry partners who have connected with students. Huge shoutout to these partners who are bringing the real world into our schools and preparing the future workforce!
Pathways program connects students with jobs
Julian Christensen and Trevon Holeman started their senior year unsure how to get a job and gain experience within the career path they want to pursue after graduation - mechanics. After understanding and taking advantage of the resources available to them through the Spring Lake Park High School Career and College office, both students now have a part-time job at Heartland Tire, an auto repair shop across the street from the high school.
Through this part-time job, as well as classes they are taking in their high school, Julian and Trevon are gaining real-world, hands-on experience that is setting them up for success once they graduate next spring.
We recently caught up with Julian and Trevon to learn more about their experiences and their plans for the future.
