A Note from the Principals
We hope that you are all enjoying the Spring weather! Please see below for an update on recent and upcoming events at HMS.
Chromebook Return
This year, students will not be required to turn in their school issued Chromebook unless they are not planning to return to HSD next year. Families / students will have the option to keep their student Chromebook for use over the summer, or to return it and check out their Chromebook again in the fall. Those moving, not returning to an HSD school, and those who are opting to turn in their Chromebook can do so on June 15 or 16 before school, at lunch, or after school in the HMS library. If a student is returning their device, please be sure that they bring BOTH their Chromebook and charger to turn in.
State Testing
State testing is now completed for almost all of our HMS students. We have a few students still completing make-up tests and will wrap up state testing next week. Thank you to all of the HMS students for their hard work in showing what they know on these tests and to you all for helping our students to do their best!
Hockinson Fun Days
We hope that you'll join us tonight for Friday family friendly Bingo at the High School. This exciting start to Fun Days will feature a baked potato bar and strawberry shortcake. On Saturday you can take part in the Fire Station Pancake Breakfast, the Marketplace Bazaar & Food Court, the Country Carnival or the Fun Days Parade.
Visit our website if you would like more information about Fun Days including schedule details and links to sign up to be in the parade or to be a vendor in our bazaar. www.HockinsonBoosters.com. We would like this year to be our largest parade ever and will honor Steve & Tacey Wrightson as our Grand Marshalls.
Getting Ready for the 2023 - 2024 School Year
While we are hard at work finishing up the final few weeks of the 2022-23 school year, we know that many families are planning ahead for next school year. Here is the 2023-24 school supply list for all HMS students. There are a few important dates to add to your calendar.
HMS Orientation will be held on August 29 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. At orientation, 7th and 8th grade students can pick up their schedule, have their school photo taken and get their school ID, purchase an ASB card, and tour the school. We hope to see you there! School begins for all HMS students on August 30. HMS will host a fall Open House for parents on September 5 at 6 p.m.
Thank you for your support!

Promotion and Upcoming Eighth Grade Events
Thank you to our staff and the members 8th Grade Promotion Committee (Kathy Nofziger, Kristin Burckhard, Kim Boyd, Amanda Hogan, and Mark Hogan) for all of their hard work preparing end of year events for our 8th graders.
Promotion
We will have an in-person promotion ceremony on June 14, 2023 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. in the HMS gym. At the promotion event, students will be presented with their certificates of promotion and we will hand out department awards. A brief reception will follow with refreshments, thanks to our promotion committee.
Due to seating limitations in the gym, we will be able to provide each student with 4 tickets to the promotion event (8th grade students participating in promotion do not need a ticket). For those unable to attend in person, we will be live-streaming the promotion ceremony on our YouTube channel so family members at home can watch and be a part of this special celebration. Promotion tickets will be handed out to students during promotion practice on June 13.
A Message from the 8th Grade Promotion Committee
We’re excited to celebrate with all of you on June 14th! With an expected attendance of 800(!) we’re still seeking monetary donations to help provide a memorable reception for our 8th graders, their families, and friends.
Contributions of any amount can be made at: https://my.cheddarup.com/c/8th-grade-promotion-4906?cart
Any extra funds collected will go towards the Class of 2027 Grad Party.
Thank you!
Move-Up Day
8th Graders will visit HHS for Move-Up Day on June 13. Students and their eighth grade teachers will walk to HHS to tour the campus, learn more about school activities, and meet student leaders. Students will return to HMS prior to the end of the school day.
Eighth Grade Field Trip
Students will take a field trip to the Oregon Zoo on June 5. Please be sure that your child turns in their permission slip and field trip fee.
