SCHOOL DISCIPLINE TASK FORCE - UPDATE
We are adding new strategies to continue to focus on reducing bullying and helping students feel supported:
* Rachel's Challenge Assemblies - January 5th
We will be having special assemblies conducted by the Rachel's Challenge organization. This group is based on a father who created a program to promote kindness and better student relationships in school after his daughter tragically lost her life in the Columbine shooting in 1999. This is a popular and effective program that we will be providing to all students K-8, but split with separate assemblies for K-4th, 5th-6th, and 7th-8th. The programs are different and age appropriate. Feel free to review the program descriptions on their webpage under Live Programs. We will be kicking off the year with these assemblies on January 5th, 2024.
* Bullying Complaint Form
PWCS Regulation 733-1 explains how we handle bullying complaints and has an attachment that is a form for parents and students to fill out if they feel they are being bullied. This week, we provided paper copies for every classroom and location in the school so that your child can always have access to this form throughout the day.
Additionally, we created an online version of the form. It is the exact same form, but having it online can be easier to complete and it automatically gets sent to our admin/security team. We will have this link in our newsletter every week. By using this form, you are helping us track and focus our efforts so that every single bullying concern is addressed in a timely manner. OPERATION WARM
Operation Warm is a national nonprofit that manufactures brand-new, high-quality coats for children in need. Operation Warm's Mission: "Operation Warm provides warmth, confidence, and hope through basic need programs that connect underserved children to community resources they need to thrive. Operation Warm’s mission has always been focused on the whole child. Our tagline, ‘more than a coat’ means that the coats and shoes we provide don’t just provide physical warmth, but also emotional warmth, the confidence to socialize and succeed, and hope of a brighter future. We’re proud to say that over the last 23 years, these gifts have become a bridge between our partners and families in need to access critical resources.
Operation Warm would like to assist our students with supplying winter coats for families in need. If you are interested, please complete the following form Operation Warm Coat Request Form by December 20th. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me, Heather Moul, LCSW, TNS School Social Worker.
UPCOMING SCIENCE FAIR
We are looking forward to this year's science fair on February 1st, 2024. The science fair will be optional for students in grades 3-8 who would like to do experiments and projects to submit for review. Students in grades K-2 will be doing class-based science projects with their teachers.
Mrs. Duncan, 8th grade Science Teacher, is leading the TNS Science Fair this year. She will be providing time and opportunity to mentor our young scientists as they complete their projects. Interested students should fill out the following Science Fair Interest Form and Mrs. Duncan will follow up with more information, including afterschool support.
