Basketball 2024
This year our basketball culture has continued to grow. We came away from Term 1 with both the trophy for Year 5 & 6 and also Year 7 & 8.
Term 4 saw the children move into playing 5 v 5 on the courts and this brought about some very exciting basketball. We were fortunate to bring home both of the trophies again in Term 4 and are proud of our teams in both their commitment, and attitude.
Our parent and whānau support has been outstanding and special thank you to those that have stepped up and coached/managed/scored including our very own Mrs Ange Valencia. We have had some fantastic coaching going on in the lunchtimes and after school. This has made a huge difference to some of our basketballers, so thank you once again.
We look forward to taking to the courts again in Term 1 2024 with more keen basketballers. So keep practicing those hoops over the holidays. Look-out Te Aroha Basketball here we come again in 2024!

Waihou Junior Touch Rugby 2023
And…just like that another Touch Rugby season has concluded. We are pleased to announce that we had 103 students playing Touch Rugby this year, ranging from 5 - 13 year olds. Firstly, a big thank you on behalf of Stanley Avenue School must go to Angela and Fraser Shallue the amazing organisers of this competition. Secondly, to all of our coaches and managers without you our students would not be able to take part. We thank you for your commitment and organisation on a Friday evening.
Special mention must go to the SAS Knights and SAS Storm for making the U/11 semi final stage. For the fifth year in a row Stanley Ave were the proud winners of the Under 13 Trophy. The SAS Warriors ran out the eventual winners 5-2 against the Waihou Untouchables. Family and School loyalty were put to the test as my daughter Ayla was playing for the Waihou Untouchables!!!
The Warriors worked incredibly hard for this result and we are proud of every player's contributions.
We are already looking forward to the 2024 Touch Rugby season.

Rainbows End and Helpers fish & Chip lunch
On Tuesday this week, we acknowledged the fabulous work ethic and extra responsibility that our wonderful School leaders and helpers take on during 2023. These students make the day to day running of the school so much more efficient and work alongside staff to 'Get things done!'
Our Year 7/8 students made their way bright and early to Rainbows end for a day of thrills and excitement and we also had a 'Helpers" thankyou 'Hot Chippie' lunch for our younger students and future leaders.
Thank you to Mrs Meyler, Whaia Adreena and Mrs Finucane for your organisation of these events
Kapahaka at Kenwyn Home
On Wednesday, 16 members of the Kapa Haka ropu walked to Kenwyn Rest Home to perform for the residents and staff. After wowing their audience, the students received 2 encores. It was wonderful to see our kids meet the residence to wish them a merry Christmas. We look forward to making this an annual event.
Wow! Ginger bread houses in Room 13
To celebrate the end to an amazing year, Room 13 made gingerbread houses. 30 houses in total were made. We broke the process up over four days: measuring, mixing, baking and finally assembling. It was a lot of fun and tasty, too!
A big thank you to ‘The Duck and Cover’ for donating the ingredients and to all of the Room 13 parents for providing the lollies.
