100th Day of School!
This week we celebrated our students being 100 days smarter on the 100th day of school. Students in grade 3-6 dressed up like they were 100 years old. Many classrooms had fun learning activities and students some of our students had special activities using the number 100 in the gym. It was a fun learning day!
6th Grade Family Night at Richards Middle School
On behalf of our staff at Richards Middle School, we would like to formally invite you and your child to Richards Middle School on the evening of Thursday, February 22nd at 6:00pm. The purpose of this evening is to introduce you and your child to their future school, a glimpse into the selective curricular courses we offer, and a tour of the 7" grade subject areas/selective designated classrooms. Our sixth-grade parents and guardians will meet in the RMS gymnasium to start their 6th grade night while our sixth-grade students will meet in the cafeteria. Our parents and guardians of students who have IEP’s can visit our ASC room in room 105 from 5:30pm-5:50pm to meet with members of SE team.
Our 6th grade night presentation will start promptly at 6:00pm. Our parents’ presentation will be in the gym to hear an opening message from our RMS admin. team, listen to informational
presentations, meet our core subject academic department heads, and have an opportunity to
see our 7th grade academic classrooms. Our students will be grouped by schools in the
cafeteria to start their presentations of our selectives offerings. Our goal is to provide you and
your child with an understanding of our RMS vision and mission statements through our
academic and social emotional supports and experiences.
Our RMS counselors will visit each elementary classroom beginning Monday, February
26th for the 2023-24 school year and Wednesday, February 28th to assist students in filling
out their schedule forms. Students are to return their schedule requests to their 6th-grade
teacher no later than Friday, March 1st.
Counselors will again help with inputting the course requests at the elementary schools
beginning March 4th through March 6th.
Salk PTO
Next PTO meeting is February 13, 2024 at 3:45 in the Salk Media Center.
Winter Weather!
The snow has arrived, which is great fun for the kids at recess! This means students will need proper snow gear to be permitted to play in the snow at recess. Please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather and with boots and snow pants each day.
In addition, please take time to label each and every item to help keep our lost and found to a minimum.
Please note that, per Board Policy, we will be having outdoor morning lineup and heading outdoors for our 20 minute recess(es) if the windchill is 10+ degrees.
Time outdoors is time well spent for kids, in all seasons
Canvas- Parent Access
All Fraser classroom teachers provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments to students utilizing the Canvas LMS. As a result, students have continuous access to the course materials and information regarding their achievement.
Parents/Guardians can also have continuous access to their student’s course materials and grades in Canvas by creating a parent/observer account. In addition, parents of multiple students can easily switch between their students to view grades and assignments within the same parent account.
All sign up information and resources are provided on the Fraser website.
Important reminders when using Canvas:
- Canvas works best in Chrome
- Please do not install the Canvas app (for parents or students). We are not supporting it as our staff and students are utilizing the web-based version of Canvas and it looks and works differently.
- If you signed up and paired with your students last year, you still have access to those students and their new courses this year.
- If you need to add more students to your account this year, please follow the directions provided below.
- If you have forgotten your password, you can use the Forgot Password? link on the parent sign in page. Then, enter the email address you used to set up the account to receive a password reset email.
- If you have forgotten the email you used, please reach out to Kim Keith, Kimberly.keith@fraserk12.org, for additional assistance.

Charlie the Therapy Dog
Charlie has made several visits to Salk with great success. Students are happy to see him and he really brightens the mood. Charlie will return after mid-winter break.
Charlie's purpose is to ease student's anxieties and increase positive emotions. We do not want his presence to cause fear or anxiety. As a reminder, parents have the ability to opt out of having their student interact with Charlie. If you DO NOT want your student to be around Charlie, then please fill out the opt out form linked here.
For the safety of students with allergies and Charlie, he will not be in the lunch room. Charlie will also remain out of classrooms in which parents have a student who opt out. Charlie will be under my supervision and kept on a leash at all times.
Rules for Interacting with Charlie:
Use calm bodies and inside voices when around Charlie.
Always ask before petting Charlie.
Don't take food around Charlie/feed Charlie
