Jaguar Band Newsletter
Your Place for JHS Jaguar Band News
a note from your director
I hope that everyone had a very happy Mother’s Day weekend. Last week in the newsletter I mentioned that things are ramping up as we close in on the end of the school year, and boy, was that the truth!
In the calendar sections below (What's happening this week? and What's coming up?), you will find calendar date reminders of the events that are rapidly approaching. I would like to highlight some of them here:
May 9 – Wind Ensemble rehearsal for Godzilla immediately after school. (Remember, we also need all seniors from the other two bands to attend this rehearsal for a very short period as well as a small group of Wind Symphony students who were individually spoken to previously by Mr. Lucita.)
May 12 – Spring Concert (A detailed schedule including student warm-up time and arrival time will be given to the various bands this week). Here is a list of performance times, however this may fluctuate pending the length of the songs.
- 6:30 Guard
- 6:40 Jazz Band
- 7:00 Percussion Samba Group
- 7:15 Symphonic Winds
- 7:35 Wind Symphony
- 8:00 Wind Ensemble
I would also like to speak specifically to a few.
Godzilla: Why is the Wind Ensemble rehearsing for it. You will see at the Spring Concert and you do not want to miss it!
Spring Concert: It is the band's version of a Final Exam. This is a required performance and will count as their final exam grade for the Spring Semester.
JHS Spring Game: This is the JHS Athletics inner squad football scrimmage that kicks off the 2022 Football Season. Last year’s Spring Game happened during the middle of a rookie marching camp, so we were only able to send a small contingency to perform. This year there is no conflict and we are able to send the full band.
Winds, Percussion and Guard Spring Training: Attendance is mandatory to be eligible for a 2022 marching slot!
Graduation Band: This is the official group that will perform at Strahan Coliseum for the Johnson HS Graduation Ceremony. The group is comprised of some required attendance and some volunteer attendance. The students currently enrolled in Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony are required to participate, and the students currently enrolled in Symphonic Winds are welcome to participate but not required. There will be no 2021 - 22 seniors participating in this band; therefore, we must fill those vacancies with members of the Wind Symphony. A detailed schedule will be delivered once we receive the graduation ceremony schedule from the campus.
Wind Ensemble Tobin Center: This is a premier performance by our JHS Wind Ensemble in a World Class facility. The Wind Ensemble was selected by YOSA and will be performing in the Tobin Center, home of the San Antonio Symphony.
The last item I want to mention in this week’s Newsletter is our currently-running FUNDRAISER!! We have got to get a higher level of involvement so that we have everyone participating. This is how we are going to pay for a significant, if not complete, cost of the Bands Of America National Championships. We need everyone to push as hard as possible during this last week of fundraising! Let’s Do This!!!!
Let’s have an awesome week and as always: It’s A Great Day To Be A Jaguar!
