"Shlafer...points out that "if I had a question about policing I would go to my criminology colleagues here and they're the experts on policing," she says. "But when you're talking about maternal and child health in the context of incarceration, who is the expert? I think part of the reason we have such a gnarly problem right now is that no singular discipline has claimed it."

8. 39th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute
Ted Mann Concert Hall
A not to be missed multi-disciplinary celebration intermixing the words of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with musical performances. The program, curated by U of M alumnus G. Phillip Shoultz, III of VocalEssence, will feature Freddie Bell and Chantel Sings of The Morning Show on KMOJ Radio, Hollywood Studio of Dance (Diane Elliott-Robinson, founder), the University of Minnesota Gospel Choir (Adrian Davis, director), a chamber orchestra of U of M students, and more.

Competency Corner
10. MCH Competency #5: Communication
Every month we’ll send you information on MCH Navigator training organized around the 12 MCH Leadership Competencies. Each competency sits within one of three larger foci areas: self, others, and the community. This month we will focus on Competency #5: Communication.
Skillful communication is the ability to convey information to and receive information from others effectively. It includes essential components of attentive listening and clarity in writing or speaking for a variety of audiences.

15. Nutritious U Food Pantry
The Nutritious U Food Pantry provides fresh and healthy food to students that struggle to get enough to eat. The Nutritious U Food Pantry is located in Coffman Memorial Union, room 210. It will be open from 12:00-6:00 PM on the following dates:
- January 28th
- January 29th
- January 30th
The aims of the Center include providing continuing professional education in maternal and child health (MCH) and support for students in online and in-person MCH graduate programs at the University of Minnesota. Center and MCH Program faculty are involved in research and training in infant and child health, adolescent health, family health, health disparities, reproductive health, and women's health.
