Findley Families~
What a fun morning we had celebrating all the success of the Dragon Dash. First of all, as a school we raised over $97,000! That is incredible. What a gift to our school community. Thank you to everyone for making our annual fundraiser a huge success.
As we head into the winter months (can you believe it?!) please review the District’s inclement weather policy which can be found here and our school webpage.
Our 2018-2019 school and district report cards are ready for viewing. We have a few copies in the office, but they can also be accessed via our school webpage. We will also post a PDF of our school report later in this newsletter.
Don’t forget, next Tuesday, October 29, is our first in our new info-session series Parent Partnerships. In this first session, we will be sharing information about the Zones of Regulation. Parents will learn about how we use them in school and how you can use them at home to support your children with managing their emotions.
Included in this newsletter is a note from our school OBOB coordinator, Mrs. Vennes. As a friendly reminder, although we support and encourage our kids in this fun and friendly reading competition, school work should take precedence. Thank you for supporting your kids with time management at home.
I hope to see everyone tonight at the Fall Festival!
Happy Friday, Findley!

It’s time for Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB).
This is a friendly competition for the 3rd, 4th & 5th graders to participate in! Each year this event is coordinated by the Oregon Association of Librarians; this is the largest Book Club in the state and is designed to promote reading! There are 16 books chosen state wide, the students compete first at Findley and then the winning team competes at Regionals (against other public & private schools from the Washington County area). If the team wins at Regionals they go on to compete at the State level. The students do not have to read all 16 books; the books can be read by the student, read to the student by a family member, or listened to audibly. This is a fun way to introduce new books and series to your child!
This is a student driven activity, the students create their own team of 4 members from their grade level, they read the books and compete in friendly battles. All battles happen during the grade level recesses and begin in late January. The program has been introduced to your children during their library time and many students are already anxiously reading and creating teams. Registration for this event is Wednesday, November 13th, during their lunches; at this time the teams will turn in signed contracts and have their pictures taken. Please talk to your child about their interest in the program, it is completely voluntary and an extra curricular activity.
Please contact me if you have any questions.

Art Literacy
October's Art Literacy Artist is ERIC CARLE (1929 – Present.)
Beloved children's book author and illustrator Eric Carle has written and illustrated many well-known titles such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar. To create his beautiful pictures, Carle uses the technique of collage. He first paints tissue paper with acrylic paints and then cuts shapes out of the colored papers to create the different parts of his scenes and characters. After viewing some of Carle’s creations, students were inspired to create their own collage compositions using cut pieces of painted papers.
Thank you for supporting Findley Art Literacy!
Yearbook Volunteers Needed!!!
The Yearbook Committee needs additional team members to help take photos throughout the year and edit the yearbook in the spring. We are looking for parents that can take classroom photos as well as events such as Findley Fall Festival. The hours are extremely flexible with just a few meetings throughout the year.
Please contact FindleyYearbook@gmail.com to get started and help create your child’s yearbook this year.
