Case Manager and Child Study Team Updates
Case management assignments may change as we head into the next school year in order to address student population changes and program needs.
Program Highlights
Our preschool program is shifting to a full day program in the fall, and an inclusive model of instruction. On April 4th, Ms. Switkes (Vice Principal of Copper HIll School) and I held a "sneak peak" for families interested in the tuition-in program. It was rewarding to meet approximately 15 families who came to see the classroom and preschool pod location. We currently have seven classes, and if enrollment continues to increase, we may have eight classes in the fall. To learn more about the preschool program, click here. I had the chance to visit classes this week with Madeline, Copper HIll's therapy dog. The students were involved in "veterinarian pretend play", and enjoyed having a real customer to trial their stethoscope and blood pressure cuff on!
In addition, RFIS and JPCASE students recently participated in a recreational, Community Based Instruction experience at Chimney Rock in Flemington. Mrs. Burns and I were able to visit and watch how the students generalized skills taught in school into the community. They ordered a meal and paid their bill! The adults were busy! They documented progress toward IEP goals and offered prompts as needed.
We also would like to recognize the work of Gretchen Biederman and Megan Pinola who wrote a grant to secure funding through Unified Sports/Special Olympics of NJ. With the $1500.00 awarded, Ms. Pinola and Ms. Biederman are establishing a club where students will participate in socialization through board games and outdoor recreational activities. The grant will fund the purchase of materials to support the club.

Extended School Year Dates for Summer 2022 and Summer Supplemental Services (Parent Interest Form Included)
In brief:
The need for Extended School Year (ESY) services are determined by the IEP team. The IEP team will review the student's progress and identify whether a continuation of educational programming is necessary to maintain skills and minimize regression. The dates for Summer 2022 Extended School Year Program are July 11th-August 11th on Mondays - Thursdays.
We are happy to offer Summer Supplemental Services this summer two days per week (between 7/11-8/11/22) for students who are not receiving ESY programming. This is not a service required by the IEP, and therefore, your interest must be expressed for programming planning. Complete this survey following your child's Annual Review IEP meeting.
Compensatory Services BIll S-905 in New Jersey
Parents of students who had an IEP during the start of the unprecedented COVID-19 Pandemic (March 18, 2020-September 1, 2021) will have a discussion during an IEP meeting about the impact of the Pandemic and any denial of services during that time period. Case managers who are holding meetings between now and December 31, 2022 will make compensatory services a component of the meetings. If you have a question about this topic, please reach out first, to your child's case manager.
