Council will Review Budgets for Community Center, Parks/Recreation, Golf & Airport; Council Agenda to follow budget review: Appropriations, Spending Plan for CARES dollars WHY? CARES can fund expenses due to COVID that are not in budget, cannot replace loss revenues; must be necessary, such as PPE, disinfection, remote work, public safety measures, quarantining, payroll used to mitigate, sick leave, grants to businesses for interruptions, promote social distancing; Tiger Drive Phase II Rezoning, WHY? completed review of site & development plans for proposed property use; Transfer of 401 E. Broadway to LCRA, establish new trash rates effective September 1st., and Amendments to Personnel Manual.

Watching TV programs like Tough As Nails or Dirty Jobs, reminds me of our very own Public Works employees. They do both the tough & dirty jobs. We always appreciate Public Works, but it is after a big rain when we need to recognize how valuable their work is. After back to back storms this week, PW is cleaning up debris from high water & downed tree limbs, a wall fell on N. Main that will require grading the hillside back, cleaning box culverts under both Thompson & Broadway is an ongoing need, replaced sewer line damaged by private group digging a pond in city utility easement, repairing sewer line break on Cordell, pump repair for Coates Addition lift station. Thank you for always being there!

Interviewing candidates for Finance Director, [Funding: GF] WHY? Director is a key position working collaboratively with all city departments; primary responsibility to plan, develop, & carry out financial functions, annual audit, coordination of annual budget & CIP planning, Investment & Budget Management, Data Processing, Financial Trend Analysis, revenue collection, billing, disbursements, accounting & financial reporting for all City operations; Bus Fixed Route will start on Monday, [Funding: FTA] WHY? many residents need to move about the community to meet their needs for personal care, business & socialization & to remain independent, because social distancing is not possible, mask wearing & regular cleaning will be necessary to stay healthy; meeting with new Royal Hotel owners, WHY? owners are making plans for renovation & sustainable uses for the property, assessing the financial requirements to carry out the right plan for success; Community Center has a lot to offer, geared toward sustaining health & wellness for all ages, [Funding: Memberships] WHY? center has established an excellent plan to ensure the health & safety of community members using the center, working closely with Clay County Health Department to minimize risks.

This weekend, Excelsior Springs High School held graduation ceremonies. We want to join our educators & proud parents to congratulation our seniors for starting their next journey.
