PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
It was lovely to see so many of you at our Open House. We appreciate the valuable opportunities for open dialogue and collaboration to ensure your child's academic success and personal growth. Please feel free to reach out to your child's teachers or school counselor with questions.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
Daily attendance and attendance to every class is important for students to remain connected and to learn. As the weather turns colder, we will open our foyer for students to wait until 7:30am. Breakfast is served from 7:30am-8am in our large cafeteria. Late arrivals have access to a breakfast cart in the foyer between 8am-8:30am.
Period 1 class begins at 8am. If students arrive after 8am, they need to sign in at our Attendance Office.
Below is a link that shares what you can do to help your child prioritize attendance to school.
POST HIGH SCHOOL PLANNING WORKSHOP
RED RIBBON WEEK
The National Red Ribbon Campaign™. Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.
The 2023 Red Ribbon Campaign Theme, "Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug Free.™", is a reminder that everyday Americans across the country make significant daily contributions to their communities by being the best they can be because they live Drug-Free!
Red Ribbon Week is being celebrated all month long through our October 2023 Wellness calendar. Inspiring families in West Irondequoit to engage in healthy activities to increase protective factors against substance use, while increasing healthy coping strategies and wellness activities. Morning announcements will further encourage engagement in healthy, drug free lifestyles. Please see October’s Wellness Calendar for daily wellness activities to engage in for the month! For more information please reach out to the substance abuse prevention counselor, Mrs. Corcimiglia.
Did you know West Irondequoit has a Substance Abuse Prevention Counselor that can support students? Complete a referral for additional student support!
OCTOBER IS WELLNESS MONTH IN WI
October is National Substance Abuse Prevention Month! During the month of October, we encourage students, staff and community to strengthen their healthy habits by trying new strategies. Your family is encouraged to use the attached Wellness Calendar (or see the graphic below) as a resource to start conversations and increase wellness strategies. Feel free to use the calendar in a way that makes sense for your family! See more at THIS LINK. Look for more from our new Substance Abuse and Prevention Counselor, Nicole Corcimiglia, on district social media channels!
NATIONAL PTA CONTEST
PARENT SURVEY ABOUT AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITY
We are looking for your feedback and suggestions about after-school activities at Dake and IHS. Please take a few moments to complete this survey and let us know a little more about how your students spend their time, what they are interested in, and what their needs are. Responses will be accepted until October 20
YOUTH RISK BEHAVIOR SURVEY
Irondequoit High School is participating in the Youth Risk Behavior Survey as part of a countywide and district effort to gather information about the health risk behaviors of youth in grades 9-12.
The Monroe County Youth Risk Behavior Survey (MC-YRBS) is an anonymous survey that focuses on health-related behaviors that lead to most health and social problems during adolescence and adulthood. Question topics include mental health, drugs/alcohol, bullying, personal safety, nutrition, alcohol and other drug use, physical exercise, mental health, sexual behaviors, social media, childhood experiences and assets.
Survey questions will be available as soon as October 18th and accessible by contacting Ms. Corcimiglia at 336-2921 to review the questions. Surveys are completely anonymous and will be reported collectively.
Students will take the survey during the school day and it will last one class period. Students will not enter any personally identifying data on the survey and school staff members will not see the surveys when they are completed. Your child’s anonymity will be protected. In addition, the proctors will let your child know that they can leave any question blank if they feel uncomfortable answering it.
What are you options:
- If you permit your child to take the survey, you do not need to do anything.
- If you do not want your child to participate in the survey, please complete the attached form and return it to the prior to November 8, before 4 pm. Your child will provide an alternate location to use as a study hall.

SAFE SCHOOL HELPLINE
If you see something, say something!
Please encourage students to report any concerns to an adult at school in addition to sharing with you. If your child wishes to remain anonymous but would like to report a concern, encourage them to complete the Safe School Helpline form using the link below or through the app. Reporting with as many factual details as possible will help our administrators follow up with individuals in a timely manner.
