Class of 2023 Graduation Details
All students participating in commencement must attend the mandatory graduation practice on May 25th at 7:45am. Please review the Class of 2023 Graduation Details for further information.
Please keep in mind that all school fees need to be paid in full in order to receive your cap and gown and to receive your diploma. Please contact Mrs. Doehr, financial secretary, if you need to set up a payment plan. She can be reached at 440-988-1422.

Chromebook Collection
Seniors will return their chromebooks on Tuesday, May 23rd in the MPR. Underclassmen will return their chromebooks on Wednesday, May 31st in the MPR starting at 12:30 pm.
Underclassmen Awards Ceremony
Marion L. Steele High School will be holding its Academic Awards Ceremony for underclassmen who have earned an Academic Award Letter on Wednesday, May 24th in the cafetorium. Freshman awards begin at 8:00 am, sophomores at 9:00 am and juniors at 10:00 am. Students who qualify for the Academic Awards Ceremony will be notified by mail. If you have any questions regarding the ceremony, please contact your school counselor.
Parents and/or guardians are invited to attend this ceremony. The ceremony will also be streamed live on the CometsLive YouTube channel.
In order to qualify for an award letter, the following criteria must be met:
9th grade after the first semester 3.65 Cumulative GPA
10th grade after the third semester 3.60 Cumulative GPA
11th grade after the fifth semester 3.50 Cumulative GPA

Students will receive a schedule in the upcoming weeks for the day, please see the updated bell schedule below. Students will report to homeroom to start the day.

2023-2024 Student Schedules
Student schedules for the 2023-2024 school year will be available to view beginning on June 1st in PowerSchool Parent Portal.
To view your schedule, log into your ParentPortal account via the website (schedules are not available to view in the ParentPortal app) and click on “Next Year Schedule”. Please note a student’s schedule will only be changed to correct an incomplete schedule or to meet graduation requirements. If you have any questions about your schedule, please contact your school counselor. Late Arrival, Early Release and Open Campus applications will be available for upperclassmen in the fall.

Department News: English Department
DRAMA CLASS
Students in Mrs. Opel’s Drama class will perform “Is It Soup Yet?” for Nord 5th graders on Tuesday, May 23. They will share the story of Stone Soup.
Over the course of the semester the students have been developing their acting abilities through various activities and will connect all of their knowledge and skills in a large production. This will give the students an opportunity to finally share their talent with others.
The performance will also be the student’s final exam for their Drama class. Students enrolled in the class earn ½ elective fine arts credit.
The students are looking forward to sharing their newly developed skills with an audience.

Voting Requirements:
*Must be 18 years old on or before the General Election day, which is November 7, 2023.
*Must be an Ohio resident for 30 days

Students can register to vote online, through the Ohio Secretary of State's office. It is very convenient and does not require any postage or distribution of forms.

Amherst Historical Society
The Amherst Historical Society Car Show will be on June 4th, with registration from 10am-12pm
Car Show is from 12-4pm at Sandstone Village, 763 Milan Avenue, Amherst, Ohio 44001
There will be closed parking for volunteers, as well as shuttle to and from the Sandstone Village
If you are interested and available, here are some ways to help:
- Selling raffle and 50/50 tickets
- Volunteering in the Pine Tree, Gallery or Long Barn for sales
- Helping with parking and greeting at Amherst Junior High, where the shuttle will be picking attendees up and dropping them off at Sandstone Village
- Greeting people as they arrive in Sandstone Village
- Helping with serving food and drinks
- Helping with water distribution
- Being a Tour Guide in:
- Harris-Dute House
- The Grange Hall
- Auto Garage
- St. George Chapel
- The Caboose
- The Octagonal Barn
- The Blacksmith Shop
- And help is also needed to give bathroom and lunch breaks throughout the day!

OHSAA Track & Field:
The Richard S. Cooley Track inside Mercy Health Stadium is the Center of OHSAA Track & Field for Northeast and Northwest Ohio over the next week! Come out tonight to Mercy Health Stadium to support our track & field athletes in the OHSAA District Finals. Field events start at 4:00 pm and running events at 5:30 pm. Return next week on Wednesday and Friday for the OHSAA Regionals where trips to Columbus will be on the line. Times for both days are as follows: Field events start at 4:00 pm and running events at 5:30 pm.
