Weekly Community Updates - December 1, 2023
Dear Students and Families,
And just like that, it is the last month of the semester! I hope students had a wonderful week off and came back energized to finish strong. It is hard to believe that we only have three more weeks of the semester. I hope students started preparing for their final assessments and/or projects of the semester. They will be encouraged to reach out to their teachers for support.
This week, students found out their interim placements. Students have access to their interims on their TeachMore app. Students will meet with their interim teachers and classmates on Thursday December 7th.
Lastly, please be sure to calendar that Oceana has minimum days from December 20th to December 22nd. Students are released at 1:15 pm as we follow our Wednesday schedule. We have two weeks of winter break and return to school on Monday January 8th.
Have a great weekend!
Take care,
Maritza Torres

Skyline College hosted JUHSD senior families for an informational evening about financial aid. Important information, changes, and application process were presented. If you were unable to attend and would like this information, not to worry! We have a recording for your convenience. Introducing CaliforniaColleges.edu - 9th Graders
In the months of September and October, Ms. Holahan met with all 9th grade students during flex time to introduce californiacolleges.edu. She discussed what the platform is used for, how it can help with planning for the future, registering students for their accounts and thinking about planning courses for next school year. This is a great tool to also plan courses for future high school years, be sure students are on track to meet 4 year college eligibility, and research colleges and careers.
We encourage our families to ask their students to show them what they learned about the platform and how to navigate it from home! Click here for the lesson.
4 Year Grad Plan - 11th Graders
In September Ms. Holahan and Ms. Owyang met with 11th grade students to do group lessons during flex time about 4 year graduation plans. They discussed Californiacolleges.edu, how to use the platform, discussed what a 4 year grad plan is, and considering/planning out courses for senior year. After the lesson, students were asked to sign into their californiacolleges.edu accounts and start to map out what courses they plan to take next year. As a reminder, students did not request/register for any course, but just created a plan for what they need for graduation and to be 4 year college eligible.
Here is the lesson slides.
