Lent24: Called to More Worship Series Begins on Sunday
Sunday, February 18 | The Highs and Lows
Mark shows, in just a few short verses, how Jesus moved from a high point of his baptism where God’s voice proclaimed him as God’s beloved one, to being in the valley of temptation in the desert, and then launching his public ministry in Galilee. We know all too well that life can throw us highs and lows in short succession. Jesus shows us how to stay close to the Father in the moments of spiritual highs and the seasons of struggle and everything in between. This is real life, and God wants to walk with us through it all.

Love Thy Neighbor Lenten Giveaway Challenge During Lent
Bring your new or gently used clothing donations to church now through Easter Sunday, March 31, and place in the designated bin in the Welcome Center. Clothing items should consist of men’s, women’s, or children’s clothing or shoes. Underwear and socks must be new and in the original packaging.
The donations will be delivered to Love Thy Neighbor throughout Lent. Vista Ridge UMC has several members who volunteer at the nonprofit organization each week.
Singers Wanted for Good Friday “Gospel Mass”
Forty-five years ago, composer and pianist Robert Ray sat down to write a very experimental, out-of-the-box choral work that combined the Roman Catholic mass format and the music he experienced in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. The work, Gospel Mass, which only took Ray two weeks to compose and was only intended to be performed once, was an instant success and, since, has been performed countless times, all over the world.
On Good Friday, March 29, Vista Ridge UMC will present excerpts from this incredible work as we, through musical celebration, remember the life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus the Christ.
If you would like to be a part of the choir for this service, we’d love to have you. The music is catchy, rhythmic, fun and invigorating! You’ll have a great time learning it and performing it. The first rehearsal will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 24, in the Sanctuary. See Jeff Anderson or Sherry Boyd for a copy of the music. If you have any questions, please email Director of Worship Andy Harrison at andy@vrumc.org.

Quiet Time: Contemplative Prayer Gathering During Lent Starts February 18
A weekly prayer circle exploring different ways to pray contemplatively will be offered during Lent. The gathering will be held for an hour at 11:15 a.m. in Portable 4.
It will be led by Robin Wright, a spiritual director, HeartPaths graduate, and a Stephen Minister. Please bring something to journal in and a pen. Join us and add more intimate time with God this Lenten season.
Lenten Study: Finding Jesus in the Psalms to Begin February 18
The six-week Lenten Study, Finding Jesus in the Psalms, will begin Sunday, February 18. Each week will include a short video by author Barb Roose, followed by class discussion. Anyone interested is invited to attend.
About the Series | Barb Roose combines an interpretation of the psalms with real life stories. The study moves through the familiar words of Psalm 23 toward the painful cries of Psalm 22 uttered by Jesus on the cross. It includes reflections on the life of King David and the original context of the writings, along with connections between the psalms and the life and death of Jesus the Messiah.
Get Involved | The group will meet from 9-9:50 a.m. in Rooms 108-109. James Kunke will lead the study and the book is not required to participate.
Amazing Grace Lenten Study to Begin February 25
The six-week Lenten Study, Amazing Grace, will begin Sunday, February 25. Anyone interested is invited to attend.
About the Series | Amazing Grace by Carol Geisler looks at how God's amazing grace touched the lives of those who encountered Christ firsthand and who point us to discover his suffering, death, and resurrection.
Get Involved | The group will meet from 9-9:50 a.m. in Room 119. Pam Gowens will lead the study. The booklet is available to purchase for those interested but it is not required to participate.
