The Bear Bulletin ~ Parent Edition
October 30 - November 3, 2023
Core Value - Accountability
We hope you are enjoying your weekend and the beautiful weather!
We are excited for another week of learning and growing! Remember, your partnership is crucial to ensure your child is successful! Please be sure to ask your child(ren) the following questions about ELA, Math and Science every day:
- What did you learn today?
- Why did you learn it?
- How do you know if you are good at it?
- What will you learn next?
This week's newsletter is full of important information and upcoming events. Please be sure to read it in its entirety.
,
Please see below for a few items of importance:
- Information regarding Halloween dress up is below! Please be sure to read the expectations and details for Tuesday. We can't wait to see our students dress up in their future career costumes.
- Please remember that attendance is very important, and we need your child at school every day ready to learn.
- We also need your help to reiterate behavior expectations with your child(ren). The biggest behaviors we are seeing is not keeping hands to self and not following directive. We want to make sure all students can learn, and that the learning environment is not disrupted.
Have a fantastic week and please reach out if we can assist you or your family in any way!
The Standard...is the Standard.

What is STEM?
The STEAM acronym stands for integrating science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math into our daily curriculum.
What are the 4Cs of STEM?
Our expectation and standard are for Willow Brook student engineers to practice being respectful collaborators, communicators, creatives, and critical problem solvers who can solve real-world challenges.
The Why?
Oak Ridge City School’s Portrait of a Graduate aims to equip ALL students with the necessary skills to become world-class leaders prepared for college, career, and life success!
ORS educators and community partners support STEM education by providing equitable learning opportunities that ensure ALL students practice the 4Cs of STEM, develop healthy digital citizen mindsets, and experience a variety of STEM-related career options from Pre-K to 12 grades.

3rd Grade Retention Law Information/Resources
If your child scored a 1 or a 2 on the Fall MVP and they are in 2nd and 3rd grade, you should have received a letter stating they are at risk for the 3rd Grade Retention Law.
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be taking place this week and your child's teacher will be more than happy to speak with you about their progress in ELA.
After Parent/Teacher Conferences take place, we will be setting up meetings to further discuss to ensure your child is on the way to success! We will include a Sign-Up Genius in the upcoming newsletter so you can sign up for a date/time that fits your schedule. Again, this is a separate meeting with our Admin team discussing the 3rd grade retention law only.
We have included information and resources below that will further clarify this new law and also provide you with resources parents can implement at home to assist their child(ren). Please access the QR Code to the left as it will share resources and videos to help parents work at home with their child. They can also access this information by clicking on this link: https://tinyurl.com/orsgrade3reading.
If you have any questions, please let me know!
