Wiley Elementary Newsletter
For the Month of February
I hope that everyone has enjoyed the first month back to school. It is hard to imagine that we are already in the month of February. Time has seem to honestly fly by this school year. I hope that the sickness has made its way through and everyone can return to school this month with minimal interruptions. We continue to make small changes that will in return benefit the students and staff of Wiley Elementary. I am excited to share with you what happened last month and events to look forward to in the month of February. As always, if you have any questions please reach out to me and I would be glad to help in anyway that I can. My email is dusty.eikenberg@wileyschool.org. Thank you to all for making Wiley the best place to be!

Student/Staff Recognition
The students that were selected as December's Student of the Month were recognized in front of the Board of Education at their monthly meeting held on January 15th. Each student was recognized by having a short paragraph read highlighting their positive characteristics that earned them the nomination. Each student came to the front and gave each board member a high five and took their recognition paragraph home with them. Thank you to the board for allowing us to recognize the great things that are happening within our school.
Kindergarten Winter Animal Habitats
Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. Bekka's kindergarten students did a fantastic job creating real-life winter habitats for animals. Prior to creating the habitat, students had to do some researching to find out some facts including; what their animal eats, what their animal's habitat includes, where the animal is located in the world, and what the animals baby is called. Great job kindergarten!
Where Our Food Comes From Activity
1st Grade
Students in Miss Pettitt's 1st grade classroom completed a reading unit that challenged students to understand where their food comes from. At the conclusion of the unit, Miss Pettitt let her students make homemade bread. This was a great way for students to participate in hands-on learning. This will be an activity these students are sure to remember for many years. Thank you Miss Pettitt for making learning so fun!
Little Scientists
3rd Grade Scientists
Mrs. Forgey and Mrs. Mason's 3rd grade students have been learning about states of matter in their science lessons. Students constructed an informational flipbook in their classroom to help learn the states of matter( solid, liquid, and gas). They also used Fruit Loops to construct the particles of each state of matter. Students then got to visit with Mr. Thompson and make a quick trip to his science lab to experiment with the new knowledge they just learned. Partnering with Mr. Thompson on these experiments has been very beneficial. Thank you Mr. Thompson for allowing our elementary students to come down and experiment with you.
Floats for Landyn
On Thursday January 25th, Mrs. Piner and her Student Council students hosted a fundraising event for the Landyn Weeks Family. For this event, students had the opportunity to purchase an ice cream float and the proceeds were given to Landyn's Family. Each elementary student had a float purchased for them.
Katie Adamson Conservation Fund Presentation
Dave Johnson
Wiley Elementary was pleased to have Mr. Dave Johnson from the Katie Adamson Conservation Fund come to our school and present on animal conservation. Dave walked us through the work that he has done and shared many stories and photographs of the countries he has worked in. Student were also able to examine some artifacts from elephants and rhinoceros. Thank you Dave Johnson for making the trip to Wiley. Your work, presentation, and time was greatly appreciated.
Classroom Valentines Party and Presents
Each classroom will be holding their Valentines Day Party on Wednesday February 14th. Please be on the lookout for more information coming home from your child's classroom teacher. Just a reminder, sending Valentines Cards is an option. However, if your child brings Valentines Cards they must bring one to each of their classmates. Also, please refrain from having Valentines presents (flowers and balloons in particular) delivered to the school. I know they are fun and enjoyable but generally cause a distraction. Please understand that balloons are not allowed on the school bus because they hinder the driver's ability to see accurately. Flower vases frequently get spilled or dropped and broken by children. I would strongly encourage having Valentines presents delivered to your home for your child.
Kids Heart Challenge
Miss Cassie and Wiley Elementary are happy to announce that the Kids Heart Challenge will be happening again this year. Your child should have came home with a packet of information with specific details. Lets do our part to help save lives! Please reach out to Miss Cassie with any specific questions.
