Post Spring Break Message
Ridgeview United,
I hope everyone has a safe and special spring break that rejuvenates the Ridgeview United community.
We have 6 weeks of school left to finish strong, and there is plenty of Ridgeview celebrating and even tradition to look forward to once we focus through April, Milestones testing, and important year-end activities. Celebrations for students who exhibit expected growth on their iReady end-of-year tests are ahead, the 8th grade picnic / celebration as well as the 8th grade dance are soon to come, and the traditional RCMS Olympics (a 30+ year tradition) are what rounds out our year.
I ask for your partnership to ensure our students finish strong - academically, behaviorally, and socially. Thanks for helping us to continue reinforcing proper behavior and dress code, monitoring academic performance and work completion, and communicating with us as a team to support our favorite RCMS students. With our continued strong partnership, we'll see some great year-end outcomes for students followed by some celebratory times.
Enjoy spring break - and we'll see students on April 10th for a great 6 weeks ahead.
-Dr. Opie Blackwell
AVID Family Night
Our AVID students recently hosted their families and some prospective students for next year by showcasing their work in our AVID elective class. They also heard from Riverwood’s College and Career Counselor and two current AVID seniors about their college application and scholarship process. The evening was complete with team-building activities (pictured).
Fun Friday
To celebrate our students’ positive behavior, students paid their digital points for entry into a Fun Friday party last week complete with popcorn add-ons, free seating to enjoy sitting wherever they wanted, and some Kona ice!

You’re Invited to the Jr. Beta Project Showcase!
Our Jr. Beta Club students are excited to invite parents and visitors to attend their upcoming project showcase on April 13th at 5:30 in the Media Center. Students will display and present their service projects to visitors. Help support a great opportunity for these service-oriented learners to share their great work!
Georgia Milestones Testing
Georgia Milestones testing in Middle School is April 24th through May 5th. The tests measure knowledge and skills in language arts and mathematics for all students. 8th graders have additional tests in science and social studies. Milestones tests provide critical information about achievement and readiness for the next level of learning. With the absence of significant testing data from the last two years, this year’s scores will establish a new baseline for schools and the district. Participation is crucial. The district expects all students in grades 3-8 to participate. Thank you for helping us ensure a high rate of student participation.
Hands on Ridgeview
Our Spring Hands on Ridgeview Day is April 22 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Leadership Sandy Springs is collaborating with us to celebrate Earth Day! Families, please join us anytime you are able for some lighter grounds beautification. Volunteer credit is available upon request.
Give us Input for Title I
On March 23rd we held our Annual Title I Input meeting to discuss our School - Family Compact, our Parent and Family Engagement Plan, and 1% set-aside. For those who were not able to make it, the presentation can be reviewed here under "Title I Input Meeting Presentation." We invite all families, parents, community members, and stakeholders to give us annual input into our planning processes and Title I requirements. Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey. Responses to the survey help Ridgeview and the district plan for the future. We would love to hear from you!
