Message from the Interim Principal
Hello Cedar Park Loving Adults,
I am Cedar Park’s Interim Principal until Dr. Shannon Anderson returns in late September. I am thrilled to be at Cedar Park again. Four years ago, I retired from the Beaverton School District with my last years working at Cedar Park. Post-retirement, I have had short-term interim administrator assignments at Greenway, Raleigh Hills, and last spring at William Walker. Now I have the honor of being back at Cedar Park!
Navigating our students return to full-time, in-person learning while continuing to implement health and safety protocols will be our focus at Cedar Park. We will be setting the foundation for the upcoming school year by creating a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for students and staff.
Thank you, loving adults and students, for all of your hard work this past 18 months. Managing these stressful times has been difficult, isolating, and challenging. Together with our amazing staff, I look forward to supporting you and your students as we embark on this next journey.
Respectfully,
Jeff Wright
First Days of School
This edition of the Cedar Reader will focus on information you need for the next few weeks as we begin the 2021-22 school year.
The first day of school is Wednesday, September 8th for 6th graders only. This will be a fun filled day for students to get to know each other and find their way to all their classes with adult support as well as our 8th grade WEB leaders. Students should not bring anything except their lunch (if they want a sack lunch from home), a pencil, and a postcard they will receive in the mail by September 7. No binders or backpacks please! A water bottle is OK. The postcard will tell them who their advisory teacher is and which classroom to go to. Their advisory teacher will give them their schedule. Please make sure we have your correct address if you have moved recently!
7th and 8th graders first day of school is Thursday, September 9. They should bring their postcard with them to school on the first day. by September 7. The postcard will tell them who their advisory teacher is and which classroom to go to. Their advisory teacher will give them their schedule. Please make sure we have your correct address if you have moved recently!!

Advanced Math Placement Test (Optional)
Some families have expressed a desire for their child to test into an advanced math class. As you are probably aware, Cedar Park already delivers an accelerated math curriculum for all students. This ensures all students will have the option to access college-level math in high school.
If you and your child believe they already possess the skills and knowledge to omit the next math class in their math sequence, we are providing an opportunity for students to test into a more advanced class. This means that a current 6th grader would test for math 7/8; current 7th graders would take a test for AGS I entry; current 8th grader would take a test for AGS II entry. These tests are to determine if students have mastered the learning targets a year beyond the instruction they received last year. Only about 2% of students who take this challenge test meet the requirement for acceleration. If you and your child believe they meet this threshold and would like to take the assessment, there will be an opportunity on Friday, Sept. 10 during school hours (time to be determined). This is the only time it will be offered. If they qualify, you will be notified and your child's schedule will be changed. We will make sure they still get their picture taken for Picture Day!
If your child was in math 7/8 as a 6th grader, or AGS I as a 7th graders, they do not take this test; they will already be placed in AGS I or AGS II, whichever is next in their math sequence.
If you would like your child to participate, please email Darla McClelland at darla_mcclelland@beaverton.k12.or.us by Friday, September 3.
Other Important Information
Lockers: Students will not have lockers at the start of the school year due to continued safety concerns with COVID. This will reduce sharing of space, crowded hallways, and students lingering in the hallways. BSD middle schools will re-evaluate this at the end of September and adjust as appropriate.
Bus Info:Note: bus info will not be available until right before school starts
https://transversa.beaverton.k12.or.us/elinkrp/Login.aspx?j=vms
User Name: Enter your student's 6-digit ID number
Password: Enter your student's birthdate in the format mmddyyyy - For example, enter 05052003 for a birthdate of May 5th, 2003
Please tell your child to memorize their route number on the first day! The route number is posted on the bus by the doors. This is different than the vehicle bus number permanently painted on the bus. Transportation sets up this information and communicates it. Please contact Transportation if you have questions.
Schedule Changes: If you or your child would like to discuss a schedule change, contact the counselor. Please note that schedule changes are unlikely to be made due to the complex nature of our schedule this year.
- 6th Grade: Rebecca Pearson
- 7th Grade: Callie McAuliffe
- 8th Grade: George McMurtry
PE: Students will not be required to purchase a PE shirt or dress down for PE this year. However, if they wish to change clothes for PE, they are welcome to do so. PE is every day, so students should come prepared to participate in PE with appropriate clothing and footwear to safely participate in PE.
Note from the PTC
If you previously volunteered at a different school and used myvolunteerpage, please send an email to update_volunteer_locations@beaverton.k12.or.us. This will get you started as a volunteer for Cedar Park.
If you have not volunteered using this website then on the District-wide Volunteer Management System (myvolunteerpage.com), all volunteers need to first complete an application and background check to create a profile in the system. Once a profile is created, volunteers will be able to update personal information, view and sign-up for open volunteer needs, and communicate directly with the school Volunteer Coordinator. Volunteers will be able to use this profile from their first volunteer activity to their last.
Rachel Carson Families
Just a note specific to RC families...
- Your child will go to their "home" middle school and ride a bus to Cedar Park. Transportation will communicate both this information and information about how they will get home.
- The IS class will be called "Design" on your child's schedule. It is one of their elective classes.
- Supply list for RC is on Cedar Park Website
