The Olive Branch 12.10.21

Dear OMS Families,

If you haven't heard, next Wednesday it is supposed to be 64 degrees! The entire week is supposed to be in the 50's. PLEASE continue to send your child to school with a coat. While they may not need (or want) to wear them, we prefer to be on the safe side just in case the temperatures end up not being what is projected.

It is our understanding there was some confusion this past week regarding spirit days. In full transparency, this was something fun planned for our staff. We didn't want to add to parents' already busy schedules this holiday season; however, our communication wasn't clear and it was shared with several classrooms last week. We would like to extend the invitation to all students who would like to participate. Please know that we will plan student spirit days in the future and this information will be communicated in The Olive Branch. We apologize for any confusion.

• Monday, December 13 - Decorative Headwear (Santa Hats, Headbands, baseball hats)
• Tuesday, December 14 - Dress like a Reindeer (Antler Headbands, wear brown)
• Wednesday, December 15 - Lighted Wardrobe (wear sparkles, light up shirts, necklaces, shoes)
• Thursday, December 16 - Holiday Shirts (maybe your child's favorite holiday is NOT Christmas, they can wear Valentine's Day, Halloween, or any other shirt that represents their favorite day.)
• Friday, December 17 - All School Pajama Day

There are over 100 items in our OMS lost and found. Please take a few minutes to review all of the pictures in the linked folder below. If you recognize one of the items as belonging to your child, please email Ms. Davis (edavis@sd25.org) with your child's name, teacher, the number of the image, and a description of which item is yours.

(Example: Jane Smith, Mrs. Fowler, Image #7392, Blue Northface sweatshirt.)

ALL UNCLAIMED ITEMS WILL BE DONATED AFTER DECEMBER 17th.

Please make sure your child's name is on their winter gear, there were only 4 items with names that we were able to return.

OMS Lost and Found Folder

Students in grades K, 1, and 2 had several opportunities this week to connect with children’s book authors through Zoom presentations. Former OMS teacher, Melissa Tumpane, shared her children’s book, Gingerbread Cone Under Construction, with students. Also, the Arlington Heights library sponsored a visit by Andrea Wang, author of Magic Ramen, a book on the 2022 Monarch award list. Students were excited to hear how the authors got started writing by just jotting down ideas in notebooks. Andrea Wang starting writing her own stories when she was 9-years-old. In both presentations, students had opportunities to ask direct questions to the authors. The hope is that these special visits will inspire budding authors at OMS! As a reminder, throughout the school year, you can always enroll your child in or unenroll your child from the SHIELD testing process. Please click the links below and fill out the appropriate forms.
