Weekly Community Updates - December 22, 2023
Dear Students and Families,
I would like to thank students for following all directions yesterday during the secure campus protocol. Secure Campus is when staff locks all doors and learning activities can resume. Our district follows San Mateo County's The Big Five. For more information about The Big Five, please take a look at the Community Packet on our website. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Today was the last day of our fall semester. I hope students are able to take some time to rest and relax during their winter break so they can come back on January 8th ready to start their Spring semester. Please have a happy new year and I will see you in January!
Take care,
Maritza Torres

Restorative Attendance
Regular and on-time attendance is important so that our students are successful in their classes. Lately we are seeing an increase in the number of times that students are arriving late to class. Starting in January we will resume our Restorative Attendance on Wednesdays after school to encourage students to arrive to class on time.
Restorative Attendance is a time when students meet with an administrator and a campus supervisor to talk about the supports that students may need to arrive to their classes on time. Some examples of supports that we worked on with students in previous years are: figuring out what bus a student needs to take to get to school and helping students set up alarms on their phones to wake up on time. During the Restorative Attendance session we check StudentVUE together with students, see if they are missing any assignments, and hear from them if they need help with any of their classes. If they need help, we have a conversation about how they can get the help that they need. Students then have time to work on their missing assignments or their homework.
A Restorative Attendance session is one hour long, and starts immediately after school on Wednesdays, at 1:15 pm. Students are asked to attend a Restorative Attendance session after they arrive late to class multiple times. Since we can only support a limited number of students at a time, students will be assigned to Restorative Attendance sessions on different weeks. Students (and parents/guardians) will be notified by email at the beginning of the week that they should attend the upcoming Restorative Attendance session. For more information regarding Oceana’s Attendance policy, please see Oceana’s 2023-24 Planner pages 6-7.
We Need Your Support for the SDR Project!
The completion of the Serramonte Del Rey Neighborhood Project will be a win-win for our District and the City of Daly City, generating badly needed revenue for the School District's educational programs, while creating much needed housing for the community. We are very close to getting the approvals needed by the city of Daly City, but WE NEED YOUR HELP TO GET THIS TO THE FINISH LINE!
Please show your support for this innovative project by doing one, or ALL, of the following:
- Attend the Daly City Council Meeting on Monday, January 22 @ 7:00 pm
- Write a letter in support of the project to the Daly City Planning Commission or Daly City Council. Those letters can be emailed to cityclerk@dalycity.org with the subject, “Public Comment.”

10th Gr. California Colleges: My Plan
In the months of October and November, school counselors met with all 10th grade students during flex time to reintroduce californiacolleges.edu and how to use the platform. We mostly discussed 4 year graduation plans. We discussed Californiacolleges.edu, how to use the platform, discussed what a 4 year grad plan is, and considering/planning out courses for senior year. We asked students to think about their postsecondary plans. We also talked about college pathways and 4 year college requirements. After the lesson, students were asked to sign into their californiacolleges.edu accounts and start to map out what courses they plan to take next year. As a reminder, students did not request/register for any course, but just created a plan for what they need for graduation and to be 4 year college eligible.
Here are the lesson slides
Ask your student to sign into their californiacolleges.edu account and show you what their academic plan for next year looks like!
