Exploring Construction
The Exploring Construction students have completed the chicken coops!
The chicken coops are 8 feet wide by 4 feet deep. There are 3 nesting boxes, a 4 foot by 4 foot enclosed roost for protection, and underneath the enclosed area is a 4 foot by 8 foot area for the chickens to feed.
Every fall and spring trimester, students in Exploring Construction build structures from the ground up. The class focuses on a number of topics within the construction industry including safety, hand and power tool usage and maintenance, building materials, construction plans, and careers within the construction industry. To build the chicken coops, students work in groups to construct the structure which incorporates framing, siding, finishing, and roofing.
At the end of the trimester, the structures are auctioned off. If you are interested in purchasing one of these chicken coops, here are the links to the auctions:

Bidders must be able to pick up the chicken coops at Champlin Park, and have the ability to move the coops to their new home.
If you have any questions about the chicken coops, please contact teacher Tom Miller at Thomasw.Miller@ahschools.us.

District to participate in the Summer Food Service Program
The Anoka-Hennepin School District will participate in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) once again this summer. Meals will be provided to all children 18 and under, free of charge.
Meals will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, at 14 sites across the district. The program will start Thursday, June 15 at most sites. Meal availability and serving times vary from site to site and are subject to change. Review a list of sites and meal times for more information.
Meals will be served inside school buildings. Parents accompanying their children may purchase a meal. Adult breakfast is $3.00 and lunch is $5.00. Exact change is required, and no checks will be taken. Anoka-Hennepin employees may use their meal accounts as long as there are funds available in your account.
The SFSP was created by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to ensure that children could continue to receive nutritious meals during summer break, when they may not have access to school breakfast or lunch.
For more information, please contact Anoka-Hennepin child nutrition at 763-506-1240 or staff.CnpEnrollment@ahschools.us.
Parent Engage 360 Podcast
Parent Engage 360 Podcast Episode 32 Part 2: A districtwide approach to school safety
The latest episode of the Parent Engage 360 Podcast is the second of a two-part series focused on school safety. In Episode 32 Part 2, host Liz Burgard was joined by Anoka-Hennepin Chief Operations Officer Greg Cole and Tim Fournier, the district’s Security & Emergency Operations Manager to learn more about the district’s approach to school safety.
Anoka-Hennepin Schools' first priority is the safety of its students and staff, and everyone plays a role in keeping schools safe.
In this episode, parents/guardians and community members can learn more about improvements that were made districtwide thanks to the 2017 Fit for the Future referendum, where voters approved the plan to address facility needs to create safe and secure learning environments for students and staff. You will also learn more about the district’s safety plan, including the terminology LOCKOUT, LOCKDOWN, and more on safety procedures and practices.
Tune in to the Parent Engage 360 Podcast on Podbean, Apple Podcasts, or at ahschools.us/parentengage360. The Parent Engage 360 Podcast is also now available on Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, iHeartRadio and Samsung Podcasts.
The Parent Engage 360 Podcast aims to provide parents and guardians with knowledge from experts in chemical health, mental health, internet safety and more, as well as the tools needed to support their children. Anoka-Hennepin hopes that providing timely and helpful information through the Parent Engage 360 podcast series will strengthen the bond between school and home with resources parents and guardians can use and share with others.
Chromebooks
Chromebooks available to most high school students over the summer months, make a plan to protect your device
Beginning in the fall of 2023, students will be responsible for the same Chromebook for their secondary school careers - creating a culture of care with electronic devices. Anoka-Hennepin Schools coordinates with Google software updates, which are supported and updated with security and feature enhancements for the life of the device.
In preparation, the Anoka-Hennepin Schools technology team has a distribution and turn-in plan at each school level.
High school: Chromebooks will be available for most high school students to keep and use over the summer months.
Students in 10th grade at Blaine, Champlin Park and Coon Rapids high schools will need to return devices for the summer, and all 12th grade students will return Chromebooks to their schools.
Tech support over the summer months is limited, but in the event that your device is lost or damaged, please contact the main office at your child’s school for assistance as soon as possible. It’s important to address any damages as soon as possible to ensure your device is ready for learning in the fall.
If you are moving schools or to another district, please return your device to your school. Contact the main office to return the device.
If parents decide to opt out of summer use, they must return the device with the charger before school ends for the school year.
To protect your device over the summer months, or at the start of the 2023-24 school year, families have the option to enroll in the Device Protection Plan now.
The Device Protection Plan is optional; it is not required, however, by electing not to participate in the Protection Plan, families may be required to reimburse the school district for the replacement or repair of damaged Chromebooks assigned to their student(s). Damaged or broken screens may cost between $100 to $190 depending on parts needed; or the replacement cost for the entire device could be up to $410.
Families can opt-in to the Device Protection Plan by logging into A-HConnect, and selecting "My Student Information," and "Fees." Parents must select or decline coverage under the Device Protection Plan. Visit ahschools.us/techprotect to learn more and enroll now.
