Keynote Speakers
Keeping it Primary
Therese Comfort - Primary Languages Consultant
Therese will look at how we can capture the uniqueness of primary schools to provide a rich experience for our language learners that will develop and challenge them and excite their imagination. We will also consider what it is children will take with them from this experience when they move onto secondary school. How to identify progress
Daniel Alliot - National Trainer in Primary Languages
With a wealth of resources, activities and ideas available to support our teaching of Primary Languages, there’s a risk that our teaching becomes a series of ‘modules’ or ‘topics’, focused on their content and with less regard for progression of language learning over time. During this session we’ll look at how progress can be spotted in even the simplest of activities, and how our approach towards planning and schemes can aim to build in progress over time, moving our focus back to the teaching and learning of primary languages.
Using IT to enhance and engage
Lisa Stevens - Primary Languages Consultant
However hard we might try to avoid it, technology is all around us; why not, then, use it to our advantage? From choosing appropriate tools, apps and activities to bringing the world into your classroom, sharing ideas and celebrating successes to making life easier, this session will explore how to engage and enthuse learners, enhancing primary language learning.Embedding phonics in language learning
Sue Cave - Primary Languages Consultant
The representation of sounds through letters in any language is a code. Through the explicit teaching of phonics, teachers can provide learners with the key to unlock this code. A simple seven step process for teaching most languages will be analysed demonstrating how to move from word to sentence level with phonics at its heart. The activities demonstrated for each step will be in French (although most would be suitable for other languages) using a sound, action, spelling system ‘Physical French Phonics’ which has been tried and tested successfully with both young and adult learners.Spotlight sessions and Exhibitors
