Greetings Razorback Parents,

I hope you and your family enjoyed the beautiful weekend. Thank you to all of those who came out, and participated with in our Teach or Treat Event on Friday. Our next school community event will be held on November 17th (Please see the flyer further down in the newsletter). This event will highlight all of the organizations on campus as well as provide an opportunity for our GT Students to showcase their projects.

Last week your students completed their district checkpoints. I encourage you to have a discussion with your student to see how well they did on each of their checkpoints. Although we will have data talks with students about their performance, it would be an extra layer of support for them if you discuss it with them as well.

Progress report grades will be available for view on Friday in the Home Access Center (HAC), please check your students grades and contact their teachers if you have any concerns. Also parents, with the revolution around the sun we have come to the time of year where it is getting darker sooner. With that being said, if your student is riding the activity buses please know that it may be dark by the time they arrive to the drop-off campus. Remember that the activity buses drop off at the elementary or middle schools, identified by SISD Transportation, closest to your home.

There has been an onslaught of inappropriate behavior and vandalism occurring nation wide at school campuses due to a TIKTOK Challenge entitle, "Devious Licks." November's challenge is Kiss someone else's girl. This could incite fights, be seen as harassment, or the like. We definitely do not want any student to be subjected to this behavior nor do want our students to participate in this behavior. TIK TOK Challenges should NOT be followed, and we implore you to talk to your student about appropriate behaviors and not those that could have serious repercussions.

Parents, we need your help to please speak to your child about the challenges, and the possible ramifications if they are found destroying school property, sexually harassing another student or staff member. Students may speak to grade level principals, counselors, secretaries, and/or teachers to report suspicious activity, or plans.

Students and parents will need to electronically access or download a copy of the Spring Independent School District Student Code for the 2021-22 school year on the district’s website at http://www.springisd.org/codeofconduct, or request a paper copy from the Department of Student Affairs at 281-891-6193.

Regular school attendance is essential for students to earn the full value of his or her education. Daily attendance allows students the benefit of: teacher-led instruction, peer discussion, building each day’s learning on the previous day’s learning, participating in school activities, and growing as individuals. Absences may result in serious disruption of a student’s mastery of instruction; therefore, the student and parent should make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences. Students will need to be present at school for at least 90% of the time for the school year in order to meet attendance requirements for promotion.

Students are expected to:

• log onto Schoology for each of their class periods to gain access to assignments
• turn in assignments that are posted on Schoology for each of their class periods
• email their teachers if they have any questions

Parents, Remarkable D.N.A are routines and procedures that all Razorbacks are expected to follow as a means of keeping all safe, and able to maximize the amount of learning time available. Please review them with your scholar each week to make sure they adhere to each of them!

Although we encourage student creativity and a means for students to express themselves, Dr. Edward Roberson Middle School’s philosophy is to maintain a focus on the educational process, and to ensure the reduction of distractions and disruptions to the learning environment. We ask that students and parents partner with us to make sure that we adhere to the dress code policy presented.

This year's Teach or Treat was a bootiful event! It was truly true to our district's vision....Every student. Every Teacher. Every Day! There was representation from all stakeholders of Dr. Edward Roberson Middle School! Huge shout out to our community partners, Chick-fil-A and Husky Ice, for providing dinner and a cold drink, for a small fee, for the evening! Students and Teachers put their creativity and time into each activity. Each community represented well with sweet treats and activities. The PVA Community provided entertainment for the night. It would be remiss of us not to promote literacy! The National Junior Honor Society gave out nearly 200 books to our students and their siblings!!!

This is just our first event of the school year. Parents you still have many opportunities to be apart of your child's middle school experience! Please reach our to see where you can help!

The annual update process for returning Spring ISD students for the 2021-22 school year is now open. All parents and guardians should verify and update their child’s information.

Just like last year, parents/guardians will need to log into the Spring ISD website at www.springisd.org and then click on the MySpringISD icon which will take you into the portal. From there, please go to the Home Access Center (HAC) to access the annual update. Once in HAC, please find the Registration Icon and select the Update Enrollment tab. Under “Available Forms”, select “Start” to complete the 2022 Returning Student Registration Form.

Parents with more than one student in the district will need to complete a separate registration for each child. Please don’t delay in completing this annual update so we can keep you informed of all campus and district news such as afterschool programs, free/reduced meals, bus transportation, schedules and all of the services you and your students rely on.

Spring ISD is partnering with Houston Medical ER and Inspire Health to offer free COVID-19 testing and vaccine sites to the district’s students, staff and community.

Inspire Health mobile testing units will be at the following campuses, Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.:

• Westfield High School (16713 Ella Blvd., Houston, TX 77090)

• *Planet Ford Stadium (23802 Cypresswood Dr, Spring, TX 77373)

To expedite testing, students and staff members may pre-register beforehand here, but pre-registration is not required. Inspire Health plans to expand location options in the near future.

Additionally, Houston Medical ER (2306 Rayford Road, Spring, TX 77386) also is providing free vaccines and testing, Monday through Friday (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.).
