Center Community Chat
February 11, 2024
Dear Center Community,
What a wonderful family event on Tuesday. Many thanks to the many volunteers who made BINGLO possible as well as all of staff members who offered up experiential prizes. We ask that prizes be redeemed by the end of May as some lend themselves to warmer weather. The person offering the prize should be in touch in the next week or so. Winners are listed in the PTO Pulse.
On behalf of the entire Center staff, we want to thank the staff, community, and family members who volunteered to share their stories and cultured experiences during our professional development day. Staff were given much to consider and reflect upon. I believe we all left the day inspired to continue to explore ways to create an even more inclusive environment at Center. Thank you!!
Valentines Day reminder:
No food or candy is allowed at classroom parties or on Valentine's cards, per the health policy. Refreshments in classrooms are allowed occasionally if they are related to the curriculum and approved by our nurse.
Have a good week.
Warm Regards,
Dianna and Donna

Dear Center Families,
I want to share with you an article called, “How to Discipline Your Child: 6 Ways That Work”, from Dr Becky Kennedy, Clinical Psychologist and her Good Enough blog/website. Dr. Becky believes that effective discipline isn’t about punishing kids to correct “bad” behavior. It’s about teaching kids the skills they need to improve behavior in the first place. She offers realistic tips for teaching our children skills to better self-regulate and manage big feelings while staying connected. I hope you find her article interesting and helpful!

MCAS - Safe the dates!
This year, students across the Commonwealth will be taking The Next- Generation MCAS for our annual standardized state testing. All students in Chelmsford will be taking the computer-based assessment using Chromebooks. Please mark your calendars for the important dates below. We strongly encourage all students to be present and on time these days. If your child is sick, we will have make-up sessions so that they are able to take the assessments when they are able to show their personal best work.
Chelmsford is fortunate to have access to iReady to support student learning. Students have access to this learning tool at home. Please reach out to your teacher if you have difficulty logging on. Sit-In. How Four Friends Stood Up by Sitting down
Andrea Davis Pinkney (author) and her husband Brian Pinkney (illustrator) created this powerful story of the Greensborough Four, who protested the "white only" lunch counters in 1960.
It was published to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Greensborough Sit-In.
The Publisher, Little, Brown and Co, shared this video in 2010 shortly before the book was published.
Sit In: How Four Friends Stood Up By Sitting Down
I share this story with 4th grade, talking about how many people followed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s lesson of peaceful protest. Throughout the civil rights movement, there were a lot of people protesting to be treated fairly, some you have heard of such as Rosa Parks and Ruby Bridges. There are also many other people, such as these college students in the story known as the Greensborough Four, hoping to make a better world for us all. Even now there is more work to be done. We can continue this work by celebrating and welcoming the uniqueness of all the people in our community.
100 days of learning has really aged the K community 😃
