- PSAT is DIGITAL!! Sophomores and Juniors that would like to take the PSAT, you can purchase the test from the Bookstore. Sales started on Sept. 11th. It is first come first serve and only open to CDO students. The cost is $25, and the test is on October 18th & 19th in the morning on campus. Please don’t wait to sign up! We have a very limited amount of tests. The last day to sign up is Friday, October 6th.
- AP tests are on sale in the bookstore. Must purchase by Nov. 9th.
Food Delivery Problems
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We do not allow outside delivery services (Uber, DoorDash, Etc.) for many reasons, but primarily due to the safety of our campus, staff and students. We do not know any of these drivers, where they are coming from, or what they are delivering. This causes a huge disruption during the instructional day. We ask that you please talk to your students about this concern.
Dorado Pride
As mentioned in our previous newsletter, we are working on correcting some behaviors that are taking place during Friday home football games. It is important that CDO students understand that we expect them to be the model of Dorado Pride at all times.
- We should not be hearing curse words
- Our students should be showing respect for the performances from our musicians and athletes
- All students should be respectful and kind to our many parent volunteers who run our snack areas
- No BOOM BOXES allowed
Please review these expectations with your students if they are planning to attend Friday home football games. We will have zero tolerance for any disrespect and they will be asked to leave immediately.
Administration also, again, cautions all Dorado parents to be aware that many students venture to local businesses after football games on Fridays and unfortunately, the supervision is minimal and we are concerned for the safety of our students.
Finally, this goes without saying, but we also expect that any adults attending our games will also show the same Dorado Pride and respect for the event and the adults managing these events.
- SEALED WATER BOTTLES are the only liquids allowed in the stadium
- We DO NOT allow open water bottles, hydroflasks, thirst busters, etc.
Please abide by these rules and understand that the staff that are taking tickets at the gates are only carrying out the directives they have been given. Any disrespect to staff members at the gate will also lead to administration being called and said guests being asked to leave the game. Thank you for your cooperation and support!

Then this past weekend, the Green Machine won 2nd place in Casa Grande and had an 11pt jump in their scoring from just last week, which is a significant accomplishment. They have been working very hard on perfecting their show, and memorizing their music and drill spots and individual marching technique… all things they get adjudicated on. They are currently seated 2nd in our 3A division for the state. Big kudos to these kids… their next competition will be in 3 weeks at U of A Band Day.

CDO's IB Program making waves! 😎
CDO student awarded Arizona's 2023 International Baccalaureate (IB) Student of the Year
On Sept. 8 in Mesa, CDO Senior Brynley Ferris will be awarded Arizona’s IB DP student of the year for 2023. She will receive a plaque and a $400 award. There are 21 IB Diploma Programmes throughout the state from Nogales to Flagstaff so this is quite a competitive and prestigious award. This accolade highlights Brynley's dedication to being a high achieving yet well-rounded student and to the International Baccalaureate Organization’s aim to develop active, compassionate, lifelong learners with international awareness.

Along with Brynley, Micah Neese was also recognized as an AZ IB Diploma Programme Student of Distinction. In addition, IB History Teacher Liz Yeager was recognized as an Arizona IB Diploma Programme Teacher of Distinction.
Hyping Required Readings in Ms. Bryant's class
It can be hard to get students excited, or at least cheerfully curious, about a required reading, but through trickle-down classroom culture, anticipatory sets can come alive.
Before reading the dystopian novel, Cat's Cradle, Ms. Bryant's Honors 10 English came into class finding circular strings on their desks. Not knowing the purpose, curiosity peaked, and play began. It was well worth the time and effort to teach the child's game to a bunch of teenagers and then have to apply the importance of the author's choice of novel title, as well as infer what the book is about.
It's National Hispanic Heritage Month!
It is National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15- Oct. 15. This is a time to celebrate and recognize the many contributions, diverse culture, and extensive histories of Hispanic and Latino Americans within the U.S. To promote this, CDO's Spanish Club put up bulletin boards, signs up in the MPR, and collaborated with the library for a display to include books by Hispanic authors.
CDO Teachers getting amazing awards! 🥳
Ms. Amanda Bryant
Big recognition on September 19th! Amanda Bryant at CDO is the first recipient of 20 teachers to be selected for the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl Extra Yard for Teachers Grant program! Part of this recognition includes $1,000 for her classroom, and she and her family will be recognized on the field at a Arizona Bowl football game later this year!
