NEWSLETTER | TERM 1 | WEEK 4 | 23 FEBRUARY 2024
The start of the term has been very busy and with the extremely hot weather everyone is feeling tired. Despite this, our students have been very flexible and adapted so well to the daily changes that occur including inside lunchtime and play and various relief teachers. Thank you also to our wonderful staff for managing all of the emotions that come with these changes.
The beginning of the week started with a great P&F Meeting on Monday night. Thank you to those parents that were able to attend the meeting and I encourage anyone who would be interested to attend to come along to our next meeting on Monday, March 18 at 6pm. A number of items were discussed including the ‘Welcome Back Sundowner’ next Wednesday, February 28, and some future ‘friendraising events’ Looking forward to welcoming all our new and existing families next week.
The daily attendance roll is conducted at 8:30am each day. If your child arrives after the commencement of the school day, they are required to sign in on SEQTA Kiosk at the front office. If it is a planned absences due to illness or appointments, best practice is to contact the classroom teacher directly or complete the Absentee Form on the website.
Another reminder to all about parking around the school grounds. Please be mindful of nearby residents’ driveways when parking in the streets and follow the rules outlined by the City of Wanneroo, which includes NO parking on the footpaths. I appreciate that car bays are limited so I do ask that families with children in Year Three to Six only, please continue to use Kiss and Drive as your preferred option and leave the car bays for our younger students. When using Kiss and Drive, please do not exit your car as this becomes a safety issue.
Finally, we have had a couple of suspected cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth and Chickenpox in various classrooms. Please be vigilant and if your children show any signs or symptoms, keep them home until they are well enough for school.
Enjoy your weekend!
God bless
Rebecca Clarke

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)
NAPLAN is an assessment conducted annually in Australian schools. It provides valuable insights into the literacy and numeracy skills of students across the country.
The results of the assessment help us identify areas of strength and areas for improvement, both at an individual level and within our school community.
It’s important to note that while NAPLAN provides valuable data, it is just one measure of a student’s abilities, and it does not encompass the full range of skills and talents that our students possess. Therefore, it’s essential to approach NAPLAN with a balanced perspective, emphasising the importance of doing one’s best while also maintaining a positive attitude towards learning and growth.
The assessment schedule is as below for both Year 3 and Year 5 Students:
Wednesday 13 March: Writing and Reading
Thursday 14 March: Reading Comprehension
Monday 18 March: Conventions of Language and Numeracy
Tuesday 19 March Catch up testing
Wednesday 20 March Catch up testing
Thursday 21 March: Catch up testing
Leading up to NAPLAN, students will have an opportunity to complete a practice test to familiarise themselves with the layout of the assessment and time constraints.
Here are a few tips to support your child in preparing for the NAPLAN assessment:
- Encourage regular attendance at school and punctuality.
- Ensure your child gets plenty of rest each night before school.
- Provide a nutritious breakfast.
- Students complete assessments everyday as part of the class and school procedures. Please encourage your child to approach this assessment with a positive mindset, focusing on their abilities and efforts rather than feeling pressured by the test.
