LOHS College Visits
September 14, 2022
During the months of September and October, LOHS will be hosting admissions recruiter visits from a variety of colleges, universities, trade schools, and the military service. These informational seminars are scheduled during the school day and are available to Juniors and Seniors.
A current, chronological listing will be provided to your students and will be updated on a weekly basis. To register for a visit, students should complete the corresponding form while logged into their LOCS (Microsoft) account. As more institutions are added, updates will be posted.
On the day or morning prior, students are asked to visit the Career Center to receive a pass that will excuse them from class. Be advised that students are responsible for any assigned work and the opportunity to miss class is at the discretion of the teacher.
Some institutions may also be offering an on-site meeting that provide the possibility of an immediate decision regarding their college application.
LOHS Recruiter Opt Out
LOHS is obligated to provide basic directory information to military recruiters. Please email Tara Hall directly if you would prefer to opt-out of providing that information. Provide your students’ first and last name as well as their year of graduation in the email.
If you have any questions, please contact Tara Hall.
Attendance is Key!
Given all of the challenges that we’ve experienced during the last few years, we would like to reaffirm the importance of students attending school and demonstrating good attendance habits.
The negative effects of absenteeism on a student’s education can be profound, and they often carry into adulthood. School attendance is a powerful predictor of student outcomes. In fact, irregular attendance can be a better predictor of whether students will drop out of school before graduation than test scores, according to the US Department of Education. When children are absent from school, they miss out on consistent instruction that is needed to develop basic skills. Children in early grades are particularly susceptible to falling behind in fundamental reading skills, which can have a snowball effect that impacts future learning. The bottom line is that when a student’s misses even just one day, they miss a lot!
At Lake Orion High School, we are committed to making attendance a priority and we greatly appreciate parents’ support. Of course, when students are experiencing illness or health issues they are expected to stay home. Likewise, sometimes it is difficult to schedule dental and medical appointments that do not conflict with school. Ideally, absences are limited to those which are essential.
In the event of an unexpected student absence, teachers are proactive with providing access to lessons materials and resources. However, there truly is no substitute for the rich learning that occurs when a student attends school and is present in a classroom.
We firmly believe in a partnership between school and home to promote attendance and shape a positive perception of school.
It is going to be a great year! We sincerely appreciate your support.

Career Readiness
Xello Homeroom
Xello is FERPA approved online program that we at LOCS use to help students prepare for the future, whether it is preparing for their time at Lake Orion or beyond. This program offers a variety of activities from kindergarten to the end of high school. These activities help students build self-knowledge, explore their post-secondary options, and create achievable plans. They develop the 21st-century skills needed to thrive in the world of work.
Next Wednesday, Sept 28th, LOHS will be holding its 2nd Homeroom with the concentration being Educational Development Plans (EDP), which they work on in Xello. In addition, this platform is used to help students build a talent portfolio and schedule their classes for their following year here in the district.
Parents who are interested in accessing the Xello Family Portal may do so through an online Microsoft Form.
Xello offers a number of online Resources for parents to navigate and Get Started. However, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to:
