It has been a fun-filled week at LRE! On Monday we recognized our December leadership award winners for the character trait of Empathy and we also introduced our character trait for January which is Perseverance. Students and staff alike enjoyed all of the spirit days we had this week, there were some very creative outfits! Throughout the week grade levels had fun holiday themed activities for kids to participate in. Here are a few highlights:

• Kindergarten watched Polar Express and had hot cocoa.
• First grade did some holiday centers which included arts and crafts and holiday bingo.
• Second grade did a snowman activity and hot chocolate while listening to stories.
• Third grade had hot cocoa, played winter games and did winter artwork.
• Fourth grade did holiday art projects and did a writing celebration.
• Fifth grade made gingerbread houses.
• Today we ended our week with a Holiday Sing Along and PJ day!

I have been encouraging students to spend some time reading over break, this is a great way to keep up their skills while they are away from school. Have a wonderful Holiday and a great break, we will see you in January!

Regional Elementary Curriculum Showcase*

This district event will feature:

• Our Elementary core curriculum in Language Arts, Math, and Social Emotional Learning for each grade level.

• An opportunity to view our 5th grade Human Growth and Development (puberty) and HIV Videos

• Opt out forms will be available after viewing the videos for current 5th grade students.

• Meet and talk with some of our Liberty Ridge Elementary staff as well as teachers in nearby SBLSD schools.

• Obtain information about 2023-24 Kindergarten Registration and programs like READY for Kindergarten.

• Visit resource tables hosted by elementary specialists in PE, Music, and STEM.

• Light refreshments available

If you are unable to attend this event, please consider attending our other regional Curriculum Showcase:

• Tuesday, February 7th at Maple Lawn Elementary- 5:30-7:00

*This is an adult event to provide parents with information about the elementary curriculum. There will be no activities for children nor childcare available.

As you may know, science and STEM have been experiencing a boost in exposure with Next Generation Science Standards and alignment between the overlapping fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. We are very proud in the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District to be hosting a true STEM Fair in which students can choose to enter the following types of projects:

• Science Project (K - 5 packet) and (6-12 packet)

• Engineering / Invention Project (K-2 and 3-5 packet) and (6-12 packet)

• Technology Project (K - 5 packet) and (6 - 12 packet)

• Reverse Engineering Project (K - 12)

One project per student, please! Project registration is due by January 13th, 2023.
