Good morning Parents and Guardians!

Congrats to the KC Chiefs on the Super Bowl win. What a game! I hope you and your child spent some time playing in the snow over the weekend and enjoyed the day off for Presidents Day.

This week, back by popular demand, we will have Sistah Mafalda who will be coming to King's Highway to provide an assembly with her tall stilts, high energy, and phenomenal dancing and drumming in celebration of Black History Month. She and her ensemble will ignite everyone to move their feet and their bodies as she gives history of the African and Black experience through music. She is engaging and interactive and we look forward to having her engrace us with her presence on Tuesday, February 20th.

Black History Month Trivia: Each week I will give a trivia question. You and your child work together to get the answer. Your child brings the answer to the school on Tuesday and receives a prize for the correct answer.

Question 2: This Air Force hall of famer and mathematician used her expertise in math and programming to invent an accurate model of the Earth which was used as the foundation for the creation of the GPS.

ABSENCES: YOUR CHILD'S PRESENCE IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO US!

Parents please be advised that when your child is absent from school, you MUST have a note explaining their absence when they return. You have three days to have the note into the office. If a note is not received in that time, it becomes an ILLEGAL/UNLAWFUL absence. You may send the note directly to the attendance secretary Ms. Kenisha Archey-Cole at archeycolek@casdschools.org. Sending notes with your child may not be received as they may forget to give them to their teacher.

According to the CASD Code of Student Conduct :

First Unlawful Absence - Parent/guardian is sent notice via regular mail of unlawful absence.

Second Unlawful Absence - Parent/guardian is sent second notice via regular mail of unlawful absence.

Third Unlawful Absence - Parent/guardian is sent third notice of unlawful absence by certified mail providing “official notice of child’s third illegal absence.”

The Guidance Counselor will schedule a school/family conference with parent/guardian to discuss the cause of the child’s irregular attendance and develop a mutually agreed upon School Attendance Improvement Plan (SAIP). Representatives from relevant and/or involved community-based agencies, child services, juvenile probation, school personnel and administration will be invited to participate in meeting.

After the third notice of unlawful absence has been issued and the SAIP meeting has been held, the next time during the school year, that the pupil is illegally absent shall constitute a violation of the compulsory attendance provisions of the Pennsylvania Public School Code.

If you have friends and family members who have CURRENT PRESCHOOLERS who will be going into kindergarten in the CASD next year (2024-25), please let them know about the KINDERGARTEN CARNIVAL which will be held on March 13th from 6-8 at Rainbow Elementary. Each month at King's Highway, we do our best to openly acknowledge students who go above and beyond to meet the school expectations of PRIDE (Positivity, Respectful, Inclusive, Dependable, and Engaged). We do this through a Shining Star assembly where teachers award 1-2 or 3 students who have allowed their lights to shine brightly throughout the month.

Our next Shining Star assembly will be on Wednesday 2/21/2024

Buenos Dias mis Familias!

If your child is in 2-5th grade and are not involved in an after school club yet, you may find that the Spanish Club is what you've been waiting for. We have a future teacher, Mrs. Kaylee Lopez, who will be teaching the club and we look forward to our students participating and learning key fundamentals of the Spanish language.

If you would like your child to participate, please read the flyer and complete the form below. We look forward to sus niños aprendiendo espanol (your children learning spanish).
