WORMINFO is a monthly newsletter about gastro-intestinal parsites. It is sent to subscribers to the WORMINFO listserv. Anthelmintic resistance testing will be part of the 2019 NAHMS Goat Study. In a cooperative agreement between Louisiana State University and USDA APHIS, the study will evaluate the use of anthelmintics on US goat operations and the prevalence of anthelmintic resistance in goat parasite populations in the US.

For two years in New Zealand, ewes either grazed pasture alone or were supplemented daily for the first four weeks of lactation with 0.5 kg (1.1 lbs) of a high protein pellet. Supplementation did not affect ewe live weight or body condition score or weight of lamb weaned per ewe.

As part of a grant project, the University of Rhode Island is offering free fecal egg count (FEC) analysis to sheep and goat producers in New England, New York New Jersey, West Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. Samples will be accepted during the 2019 summer months.

The Dale Bumpers Small Farms Research Center in Booneville, Arkansas will hold a sale of Katahdin Sheep on August 1, 2019. Mature rams and ewes and fall and winter-born ram and ewe lambs will be offered for sale. All animals will have estimated breeding values (EBVs) for parasite resistance (fecal egg counts). A catalog will be available in July.

Dr. Niki Whitley is an Extension Specialist at Fort Valley State University (FVSU; since 2015) with 20+ years of experience with small ruminant production. Prior to FVSU, Dr. Whitley was the Agriculture and Natural Resources Program Leader and Animal Science Specialist at North Carolina A&T State University and before that she was at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Dr. Whitley has many research articles, is a successful grant writer, and has several newsletter and fact sheet publications aimed at farmer/producer education.
