What is Eagan High School doing to elevate and integrate black voices this month?

*PAWS teachers were supported in discussions around black exceptionalism through the poems by Amanda Gorman from the Inauguration and Super Bowl.

*EHS Faculty and CFA’s continues to read “So You Want to Talk About Race” by Ijeoma Oluo and discuss how the content impacts our students. Small group discussions of teachers, CFA’s and principals meet each Wednesday morning.

*EHS Faculty including CFA’s and principals participated in a third training Feb. 10th with Michael Walker and Dena Luna of Critical Questioning LLC: “History, Microaggressions and Culturally Relevant Strategies”

*The Equity Advisory Council composed of BIPOC students and parents as well as CFA’s and faculty members and principals continues to define who they are and the purpose they serve within EHS. José Martinez, Amanda Adams, Priya Prashad and Dr. Talaya Tolefree of Koinonia Leadership Academy act as facilitators.

* Together with her Hospitality Class students, Patsy Keech with support of Rick Stanton, CFA , have prepared art and decorations celebrating Black History Month and installed them in our hallways. Our Art teachers are displaying black artists, including our students’works in our Art gallery and other locations in our hallways.

Ten students from Eagan High School competed in the BPA Region 2 competition which was held virtually from January 11th to January 21st . 92 students from 6 high schools competed: Cannon Falls, Eagan, East Ridge, Eastview, Stillwater and Tartan. Results for the Eagan team were:

Abhi Ari, Rishabh Bhattacharya, Arush Iyer and Sriram Nutulapati: 1st in Website Design Team.

Kumail Hassan: 1st in Business Law & Ethics and 1st in SQL Database Fundamentals.

Arush Iyer: 2nd in Personal Financial Management.

Ali Jafferi: 2nd in Integrated Office Applications.

Ankitha Kumar: 1st in Advanced Interview Skills; 3rd in Financial Math and Analysis Concepts; 3rd in

Mgmt/Mktg/HR Concepts; and 5th in Medical Terminology Concepts.

Ibby Miyanoorwala: 1st in Basic Office Systems & Procedures and 3rd in Business Law & Ethics.

Sriram Nutulapati: 1st in JAVA; 1st in Computer Programming Concepts; 3rd in Information Technology

Concepts; and 5th in Parliamentary Procedure Concepts.

Donald Thai: 1st in Personal Financial Management and 3rd in Intermediate Word Processing.

Katie Wong: 1st in Fundamental Accounting.

All ten students have qualified for the MN State BPA competition which will be held virtually March 4th to March 9th as students try to qualify for the National BPA conference scheduled for May 5th-9th in Orlando, FL.

Families in our district who qualify for free or reduced-price meals are now eligible for additional emergency nutritional benefits offered from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture.

If you have already qualified for free or reduced-price meals earlier this school year, you don’t need to do anything because your family will automatically receive these new benefits.

However, if your family income has been affected by the pandemic and you have not completed an Application for Education Benefits (free or reduced-price meal application) for this school year, please complete and submit your application by Feb. 28, 2021.

These benefits are provided by Federal “Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer” funds (P-EBT) and will be provided to any family who qualifies for free and reduced-price meals this school year. These additional benefits will be retroactive to September 2020. We urge families to apply right away.

Families who qualify will receive separate electronic grocery cards for each student in the family. The cards would include funds (approximately $6.82/day) for each day your student was in distance learning during the school year. Cards will be mailed from the State of Minnesota in late March 2021.

EHS Senior, Ankitha Kumar is one of two Minnesota state winners for 2021 in this Top Youth Volunteers awards program. View the Press Release.

Ankitha Kumar, 17, of Inver Grove and Sarah Erickson, 14, of Excelsior today were named Minnesota's top youth volunteers of 2021 by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, America's largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer service.

As State honorees, Ankitha and Sarah will each receive a $2,500 scholarship, a silver medallion and an invitation to the program's virtual national recognition celebration in April, where 10 of the 102 State Honorees will be named America's top youth volunteers of the year. Those 10 National Honorees will earn an additional $5,000 scholarship, a gold medallion, a crystal trophy for their nominating organization and a $5,000 grant for a non profit charitable organization of their choice.

To help make the upcoming Diffley Road School Area Improvements project more effective, we need your help to identify potential education and encouragement programs and initiatives for students and families that will be part of the Eagan Safe Routes to School Plan. Please take five minutes to complete this Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program survey located on the SRTS project page.

Online application and payment for the Spring Trimester 2021 Parking Permit begins on Monday February 22, 2021 at 5 PM for Seniors only. Application and payment for Juniors begins on Monday March 1, 2021 at 5 PM. Parents and guardians can pay the Parking Tag fee ($32) from the convenience of your computer, via MyPaymentsplus. Parking permits for Trimester 3 Spring Trimester will be distributed on March 15 thru Friday March 19 from 7:30 – 8:30 AM in the lower east entrance of EHS and during all lunch periods in the student commons. Please remember that we only have 450 parking permits available for students during the Spring Trimester. When completing the application please indicate which cohort (A or B) you will be attending this spring. Those students in cohort C do not need to purchase a parking permit. Parking permits are awarded on a first come first serve basis. Sophomores are not eligible for parking permits.

Please know that Fall Trimester permits received partial refunds to the card used to purchase once we went to Distance Learning in November and are not valid as we go into Spring Trimester.

(Eagan, MN January 27, 2021) The Eagan Community Foundation announcesthat over 100 scholarships (totaling in excess of $120,000) are now available to graduating high school seniors living in Eagan or attending a high school located in Eagan. The application system is available at www.eaganfoundation.org until 11:59 p.m. on February 19, 2021.

Eligible students graduating in 2021 can complete a single application on the Eagan Community Foundation's website at www.eaganfoundation.org. Scholarship awards are based on a variety of donor-specified criteria including student financial need, career interest, club/sport participation, and more. There are also scholarships available that are not dependent on GPA, but recognize talented young individuals who have persevered through hardships in life or have demonstrated strong community leadership. All graduating high school seniors living in or attending school in Eagan are encouraged to apply. Students will automatically be considered for any scholarship for which they qualify but may only receive one scholarship. There are typically about 300 applicants.

Scholarships are funded through donations from community members, area businesses, school organizations, family foundations, and nonprofits. "We're honored to be a steward of the Eagan community's generosity. Since our program began in 1991, we estimate about 100 different donors have sponsored nearly $1,900,000 in scholarships. We're honored to partner with so many great donors and are excited to hit our $2 million mark in scholarships this year", said Executive Director, Jamie Hopkins. "While we have lost scholarship funds this year in response to the pandemic and economic crisis, some new donors have stepped up. We appreciate the donors' commitment to ensure the class of 2021 receives the recognition they deserve" Hopkins continues.

All students are eligible for free seven-day meal kits to support their distance learning. To best meet the needs of our families, meal kits will be available for pick up near the middle/ high schools’ south entrance doors at these times:

· Monday 4:00pm- 5:30pm

· Tuesday 7:30am- 9:00am

· Wednesday 10:00am- 11:00am (Digital Academy Meals will continue)

· Thursday 7:30am- 9:00am

· Friday 10:00am- 11:00am

Look for the banner and sign for the distribution location. Families with children in multiple schools are encouraged to pick-up all seven-day meal kits at one school.

Initially, families will be asked to complete this Seven-Day Meal Kit Interest Survey. This will allow the Food and Nutrition Services department to prepare the number of meal kits needed. The survey only needs to be completed once.

The U.S. Dept. of Agriculture has authorized funding for schools to provide meals at no charge to children, 18 and younger, for the entire school year. All secondary families are encouraged to participate in this opportunity. Any child 18 and younger, or parent/guardian of a child is able pick up these seven-day meal kits. For contactless distribution, the seven-day meal kit boxes will be placed on a 6-foot table with a bag of milk on the side. Families will be able to take as many boxes as needed for their children. Food and Nutrition Staff will monitor and replenish the table as needed.

Our South Entry Doors, specifically Door #1, and vestibule remain open from 7:30 AM - 6 PM each weekday for pick up or drop off of books, materials or other items.We have a large supply of school supplies and would be pleased to provide them for any student or family. Please let us know if a student needs to pick up a book, textbook or other items so that we can provide it for them. Call 651-683-6900. Additionally, the offices are open each school day and students may come into the building for assistance. Masks are required at all times in the building.
