Hubbard Woods Update
September 27, 2022
Principal Update:
Dear Hubbard Woods Families,
I hope that you were able to spend some restful time with your family this weekend. Please see the District Update below for information regarding an assembly we had to start our day. I had three fourth grade student volunteers that helped to lead our assembly. It was nice to gather together as a community. We shared how we can be supportive of our schoolmates and steps we can take to keep ourselves safe. No questions were asked during our assembly and there was no reference to the incident from Friday. I wish us all a peaceful week ahead.
Sincerely,
Beth Carmody
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!!!
In Hubbard Woods, we are currently having a month-long celebration: Hispanic Heritage Month, from September 15th - October 15th.
Our students are learning about famous Hispanic people and culture in Spanish class. They are enjoying famous singer Basho’s videos to learn vocabulary in Spanish while they sing and dance. The kids like to sing along and know his songs by heart.
The first graders have learned to say good morning, good afternoon, and good evening in Spanish with Basho’s Como estas song.
Second and Third graders love to sing to Basho’s Colores song.
And the fourth graders know all of these songs plus this one about months and days of the week, which they are very proud to sing in Spanish, even though it’s super long!
Please surprise your kids by playing one of their favorite Basho songs!
Sincerely,
Rocio Monge and Liz Winitz

Assembly
Students and staff gathered together for a morning assembly at all five schools today. The presentation included information about seeing something and saying something, being an up-stander and what steps to take if you are in an unsafe situation. While this was a natural opportunity for us to review these things with our students, we made it clear that there are situations in which the safest way to be an up-stander means calling for help–whether that is dialing 911 or getting an adult. We also wanted to recognize that there are going to be instances that if unreported, could escalate into something worse, and want our students to know who they can go to in their school for help. Today’s presentation slides are linked below.
