Meet at the 50
Lake Shore was thrilled to kick off a heartwarming new tradition: Meet at the 50!
This special event united our incredible senior Class of 2025 with the bright-eyed Kindergarten Class of 2037 for a memorable moment on the football field. Our Media Productions team captured all the action and will share the video soon.
Video clip: https://x.com/myLSPS/status/1920148673595375961
At Meet at the 50, our graduating seniors and kindergarteners met at the 50-yard line, symbolizing the full circle of their educational journeys—from the very first day of kindergarten to the excitement of high school graduation. Our seniors wrote heartfelt postcards to their younger counterparts, offering advice, encouragement, and well wishes for the road ahead. Kindergartners gifted a Shorian Friendship bracelet to their “seasoned selves” as a symbol of lasting connection and unity.
˜”*°•.˜”*°• Once a Shorian, Always a Shorian •°*”˜.•°*”˜
This event was a beautiful celebration of school spirit, growth, and the incredible bond that forms between these two stages of life. It was an emotional, inspiring moment—and some tears of joy were shed!
One of the most heartwarming moments was seeing Seniors Josephine Belnome, Alexis Gress, Kayla Patterson, and Wyatt Smith share a special embrace with their Kindergarten siblings—Nina Belnome, Austin Crouchman, Ryden Patterson, and Cheyenne Smith—from Masonic Heights and Rodgers Elementary. It’s a memory they’ll cherish forever!
In the crowd, we spotted a proud Shorian grandmother, Sue Franzem, embracing her granddaughter and grandson from Rodgers Elementary. Wearing a shirt that read “Lake Shore High School Class of 1983,” she beamed as she declared, “Once a Shorian, always a Shorian.” Her son, Joseph, graduated from LSHS in 2014—making them a proud three-generation Shorian family!
We're midway through Employee Appreciation Week and want our staff to feel the love from this event, too. We all have a part in the growth and success of these Shorians. It is because of you—the dedication, support, and commitment of all employees—that they are able to thrive and reach new heights. Together, we make a difference, and staff contributions truly matter.
Bonus: A special group of 10 Kindergarteners and 10 Seniors were chosen to represent their younger and older selves to take part in the beginning and end of the Senior video, currently in progress. You won't want to miss the 'Time Machine'. Thank you to the following students for their participation:
- Tommy Ahearn - Oliver Achenza
- James Sheen - Owen Kozicki
- Cameron Whitcher - Vinny Harris
- Daniel Gibson - Christopher Heintz, Jr.
- Terssa Leahy - Gianna Thomas
- Gabriella Michaels - Mazie Leonard
- Carrington Barnes - Laiyah Haynes
- Kehera Shabazz - Sophia Klosterman
- Lauren Maciejewski - Jessa Ruebelman
- JaSean Dean - Ar'Monte Felder
A special thank you to Mr. Winters, Wyatt Smith, and Keenan O'Neal from Building Renovations class and Mrs. Kamis and Senior Robin Melnyk for their assistance with film props and Jody Battaglia for the selection of Kindergarteners.
Double Bonus: A big thank you to the Positivity Project for sponsoring the Once a Shorian, Always a Shorian rubber bracelets! They showed their support with a photo taken outside our Savannah, GA office, alongside P2 CEO and Co-Founder Jeff Bryan and team members Ingram Miliam, Kelly Groover, and Mel Killingbeck.
Triple Bonus: We’re grateful to Matt and Eliza Ahearn from Wally's for partnering with Lake Shore High School to offer a generous discount on the custard treat enjoyed by all students. A thank you as well to our amazing Food Service Department for providing the spoons and napkins!
Bonus++++: We could not make this event happen without the support from building administrators, teachers and staff, Maintenance and Operations, Transportation, Band and Cheer, and Media Productions! The partly cloudy skies and perfect 60-degree weather definitely deserve some appreciation! Thank you!

Positivity Project
P2 Calendar
Under the guiding principles of our districtwide initiative, the Positivity Project, the #PositivityInAction mindset is our top priority. Because of our goal to inspire students to build positive relationships and become their best selves, we invite you to follow this Positivity Project Calendar. Note: We have made a few changes to this calendar; All adjustments are located on our District Events Calendar.
This calendar outlines all 24 character strengths, 1 highlighted per week. Our teachers create engaging and impactful lessons — differentiated by grade-level — and share through presentations, student recognitions, classroom discussions, and building-specific displays.
--
People with the character strength of purpose have beliefs about the meaning of life and their life’s purpose. They seek to be part of something greater than themselves.
Our entire Shorian Nation staff pitched in to write a combined total of 500+ postcards to Seniors who have made a significant impact on them from Lake Shore High School and North Lake High School. We appreciate our students, past and present, more than they could possibly know, and this is one small way of sharing this message.
THE IMPACT OF SENIOR POSTCARDS
Warning: Watching this video will cause extreme happiness (and you will cry ). Thank you Jersey Abriel & Abigale Smith from Media Productions for this masterpiece!
We encourage our Seniors to visit the commons at Lake Shore High School and hallway at North Lake High School to read these handwritten words of affirmations wall. All postcards will be given to our Seniors by the end of the year as a keepsake.
Every Senior has at least one, written by their favorite staff member from Lake Shore High School, North Lake High School, Kennedy Middle School, Masonic Heights Elementary, Rodgers Elementary, or Violet Elementary.
A special thank you to secretary Kim Robertjohn for collecting and organizing the postcards and Mrs. Fain's class for hanging them with help from Ms. Sue.
From all of us inside the Shorian Nation, we believe in you and your purpose in life. After all, our educational purpose is driven by these relationships.
--
People with the character strength of enthusiasm approach life with excitement and energy. They energize people around you.
In celebration of our employees during Employee Appreciation Week, which ran from May 5th-9th, we will recognized our Lake Shore staff who go the extra mile and celebrated the people who keep Lake Shore running.
Superintendent Dr. DiPonio wrote, "It goes without saying that a week is not representative of the admiration and appreciation that exists for you. My years in education have taught me a handful of indisputable facts. The clearest of all of these is that it is always the people, never the programs, that are the determining factor for success. Simply put, you win with people. Lake Shore is just next level. The care, devotion, and commitment you display each and every day is extraordinary. It does not go unnoticed."
- Thank you, community businesses, who will recognize Employee Appreciation Week with our branding on their outdoor signs throughout Saint Clair Shores.
- Thank you, Management Team, for the LS branded, insulated lunch boxes, a place to conveniently carry a balanced, healthy meal with you wherever our employees go.
- Thank you, Positivity Project, for the Once a Shorian, Always a Shorian rubber bracelets.
- Thank you, building principals, for your carefully selected luncheons to celebrate our staff later this week.
- Thank you, Rachel Nagorsen, Community Relations Director with Lakeshore American House, for providing lunches to elementary teachers on Tuesday.
- Thank you, 5th grade elementary students, 8th grade middle school students, and 12th grade high school students, who will be recognizing their favorite staff members with carnations.
- Thank you for all of the extras that will be done throughout the week, from our community, to make our staff feel special.
Bonus: Congratulations to Isaac Castle and Justin Allensworth for winning the Rocket League State Championship for the second consecutive season! We're also celebrating Lake Shore High School's Megan Morell and Eva Wilks for their academic excellence highlighted at the All-Academic Awards Banquet! Kaylee Gerow and Paige May collected $825+ in donations from Masonic Heights' Market Day to benefit the Lake Shore Family Assistance Foundation!
Their achievement is a testament to the many P2 character strengths they have shown on their journey to the top.
Looking forward, we are excited to celebrate Leadership (5/12-16) and Outro Week - Other People Mindset (5/19-23).

OK2SAY Student Safety Program
See something? Say something.
OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at school students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
Anyone can report tips on criminal activities or potential harm directed at students, school employees, or schools. Tips can be submitted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
While continually evolving and reviewed annually, on this Safety and Security webpage you will find a list of recent and current safety measures implemented by Lake Shore Public Schools to provide the safest environment for our students and staff.

Teacher Friendships
Teaching is a challenging, rewarding, and often isolating profession, but one of the greatest gifts it offers is the deep friendships that are formed along the way. From early morning lesson planning to late-night grading sessions, the shared experiences create bonds that go beyond just colleagues—they become lifelong friends.
Teacher friendships aren’t just about commiserating over the struggles of the classroom; they’re about celebrating each other's victories, big and small. It's about supporting one another through the tough days, offering a shoulder to lean on, and sharing a laugh when you need it the most. Whether it's swapping teaching tips, planning a surprise celebration for a student, or simply enjoying a cup of coffee together, these friendships are what make the ups and downs of teaching a little easier to navigate.
Third-grade teacher Ms. Amateis from Masonic Heights Elementary enjoys spending time with her friends, Mrs. Filer and Mrs. Materna. She shared, “They were the ones who encouraged me to join Lake Shore, and I truly enjoy working alongside them.”
Mrs. Lynch and Mrs. Stasyk have taught side by side for 16 years at Violet Elementary, beginning in 1st grade and now teaching 4th. They both agree that their strong friendship is one of the main reasons they look forward to coming to work each day. As Mrs. Stasyk put it, “We may have started off as teaching partners, but we grew into friends—and then into family.”
All-Star educators Ms. Gray and Mrs. Foster have been best friends since 7th grade. For the past four years, they’ve worked together at Violet Elementary after Ms. Gray was encouraged to apply and joined the team. Keeping the momentum going, Ms. Gray recently inspired another longtime friend, first-year teacher Mrs. Moceri, to join the Violet family as well. It’s amazing to see this tradition of friendship and collaboration continue!
Ms. Gray wrote, "Mrs. Foster is incredibly hardworking, organized, patient, kind, empathetic, and so much more. The way she is able to hold students accountable while making them feel loved and supported is incredible. She is also a phenomenal leader and is the true definition of lead by support. I am proud to call her my friend!"
At Kennedy Middle School, teachers Mrs. Holtz, Mrs. McGuire, Mrs. Gough, Mrs. Bailey, Mrs. Clow, Mrs. Coffey, and Mrs. Malloy have formed a close-knit tribe. Their friendship has been a source of strength, support, and joy throughout their teaching journey.
Teachers are some of the most selfless individuals, constantly pouring into their students, but it’s often their fellow teachers who remind them that they are seen, appreciated, and valued. There’s a unique understanding between educators, an unspoken recognition that only those who stand in front of a classroom can truly understand.
Here’s to all the teacher friendships that light up our schools. You make each day a little brighter and remind us that no teacher is ever alone in this journey!

Teacher Appreciation Day
Happy Teacher Appreciation Day! We love our Lake Shore teachers and demonstrate this care with the power of a flower.
Since 2016, Seniors walked through all buildings at Lake Shore Public Schools, showcasing their incredible accomplishments to their underclassmen peers. Seniors felt the love from parents, cousins, younger siblings, friends, teachers, and strangers. These locations were their old stomping grounds. They always will be.
In 2019, Seniors were given red and white carnations to pass on to a staff member who made an impact on them while attending Lake Shore Public Schools. These students are already moving mountains, but allowing them to thank those that are responsible cements a lifelong relationship.
This year, we continued the tradition of demonstrating gratitude for our staff during Employee Appreciation Week with flower presentations from all 5th graders, 8th graders, and 12th graders.
Fifth grader Mila Charrette chose Ms. Bologna at Rodgers Elementary, recalling a time when the teacher supported her through a challenging friendship issue—a moment that meant the world to her.
Eighth grader Lucy Roy handed her carnation to Mrs. Gough at Kennedy Middle School. She said, "Mrs. Gough is literally my best friend in the whole wide world; I tell her all the tea!"
Choosing just one staff member from their building who they felt the deepest connection with was tough. We are excited to learn who our Lake Shore High School Seniors will give their carnation to during their Senior Walk on May 30th!
Bonus: We love the VIP Teacher of the Year parking spot recognition!
Double Bonus: Thank you, Rachel Nagorsen, Community Relations Director with Lakeshore American House, for providing lunches to elementary teachers! This partnership is so special & American House wanted to show our teachers some love!
Kelli Lipinski from AH’s Community Relations team helped with the delivery. Her adult children, now 28 and 22, once attended Rodgers Elementary. “I love working here and supporting the community,” she shared.
Celebration
School Lunch Hero Day
When we say school nutrition professionals are heroes, we mean it! Thank you to each person responsible for providing lunches (and food) to millions of children across America, but especially our Lake Shore Public Schools employees.
Tina Morris, Food Service Director, said, “Happy National Lunch Hero Day to our amazing team of women who feed our district day in and day out! Thank you for making a difference with what you do everyday with a smile, fun, kind gestures and caring ways! We are better because of you!”
MEALS-TO-DATE SERVED STATISTICS
- Breakfasts = 85,394
- Lunches = 252,226
During the month of April, our Food Service team kicked off testing season with a nutritious breakfast for students! A good breakfast before a test is crucial because it fuels your brain and body, leading to better focus, memory, and overall performance on the test.
District K-12 Art Show
This year’s exhibit showcased 30 art pieces from each school building, all thoughtfully prepared by our talented students. The show highlighted their creativity and artistic growth through a variety of mediums including drawings, paintings, ceramics, and digital art, proudly presented to the community.
National Decision Day
Lake Shore High School is celebrating National Decision Day! Lake Shore High School Seniors are ready to make a commitment by finding a post-secondary option that fits.
LSHS's 2nd annual Decision Day event is a fantastic celebration of the achievements and future plans of our graduating seniors and included a welcome message from College Adviser Ms. Tanski, Declaration of Decision & Banner Signing by Seniors, Letters to Future Seniors, Giveaway Ticket Distribution, Senior Survey, and a Pizza Party Celebration!
During the Declaration of Decision segment, every senior had the opportunity to announce their post-LSHS plans to their peers. Following this, they will walk across the stage to sign the 2025 Decision Day Banner, which will be prominently displayed at the school until graduation.
Follow their decisions by accessing the 2025 Senior slide deck: https://tinyurl.com/2025LSHSGrads
They also participated in activities such as spirit rock preparation, tote bag creation, painting, bracelet making, and outdoor yard games. It was an incredibly fun day!
We also celebrate School Communicator's Day! Good communication is the bridge between confusion and clarity.
Our social media Facebook, X, and Instagram channels provides a way for us to connect with you. We will continue to broadcast updates and alerts throughout the Summer, share programming and photos, and be responsive by answering questions you have in our direct message inbox or at social@lsps.org.
We love communicating and engaging with our community. And although the eNews, our biweekly newsletter, will be paused during the Summer months, we will continue to update our website (http://lakeshoreschools.org/) and event flyers (https://bit.ly/2Z6Lomg).
Maintaining effective communication strengthens Lake Shore's identity; We are here to help.
