Franklin Families and Students,

This has been a trying week for our community. Many events transpired that created both moments of concern and reflection. We recognize that the canceling of classes brings about many questions. However, our district and school leadership take these matters seriously, and will always try to do what is best for both students and staff. As modeled by other schools in similar situations, our staff used the day to be in community, to heal, to plan, and prepare ourselves for the return of school Monday. Our plan is to return on Monday in a unified effort to support the needs of our students.

Our Franklin Beliefs call us to Maximize Relationships; to do this, we must be compassionate in validating students’ lived experiences in order to provide opportunities for restorative growth. We understand that all of our students were impacted this week, and therefore as a staff we will provide time, space, and resources; allowing our collective community to once again come together. We recognize that together is the only way we will make it through.

Your understanding and support is needed and appreciated.

Franklin STRONG,

Chris Frazier

Principal

Exchange Student Host Families Needed

Many Italian students are determined to fulfill their dream of being an exchange student in the US and living with an American family for a semester or school year. Ergon Student Exchange only admits strongly motivated, responsible, and respectful students. They are fully vaccinated and will meet all US entry regulations. They carry a $2 million insurance which also covers Covid-related expenses.

To complete the cultural exchange, your son or daughter will enjoy an all-expense paid Italian vacation to visit the family of your Italian student in the summer of 2024, and Ergon sponsors the flight! To learn more, please visit www.ergon-se.org or email info@ergon-se.org. Thank you!

Franklin Celebrates Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

As a community we will share, highlight, or introduce a concept or topic related to our climate and equity work. This section will allow us to learn, use common language and create an opportunity to discuss climate and equity related topics; allowing us to collectively grow as a school community.

March has been recognized as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. In 1987 President Ronald Reagan issued a public proclamation urging Americans to provide individuals with developmental disabilities “the encouragement and opportunities they need to lead productive lives and to achieve their full potential.”

At Franklin High School we honor and respect all persons with the mission of helping all students achieve their full potential.

Varsity Cheer Coach Needed

Franklin is looking for a Head Cheer Coach. If you are interested or know someone that is seeking to gain experience as a coach or wants to pursue a cheer coaching career here is a wonderful opportunity.

Please have them apply on the PPS website PPS Employment. Job ID #25691

Interested candidates can also contact Franklin Athletic Director Matt York.

Game Schedules

Because game schedules are subject to frequent, often last-minute changes, we don't publish them in this newsletter. Please bookmark this page to have easy access to up-to-date game info.

Keeping Students and Staff Safe During the Winter

We ask that all families and students be mindful of the PPS Communicable Disease protocols as we look to keep our students and staff healthy during the winter.

PPS takes these steps to ensure healthy school environments so that in-person learning can continue. In accordance with CDC guidance, we are also urging families to take steps to protect themselves and minimize the spread of communicable diseases in our schools. Such precautions include:

  • Keeping your student home when they are sick
  • Making sure your student gets a flu shot
  • Keeping your student up-to-date on the COVID-19 vaccine and boosters.
  • Masking - people with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask
  • Washing your hands and avoiding touching your face

If your student presents symptoms of respiratory illness, including coughing, sneezing, runny nose, fever, or shortness of breath, please contact your health care provider right away.

You can also use the Self-Screening Tool to monitor symptoms or consult with your school nurse for your student’s return to school date.

The health and well-being of our students and staff is extremely important to us. We are keeping close track of the trends in our state and on the local level. PPS will continue to take all the steps necessary to maintain a healthy environment for our students and staff in the coming months.
