A few weeks ago our Fellowship of Christian Athletes hosted See You at the Pole. SYATP is an annual student-led event where students meet at the school flagpole before school to lift up their friends, families, teachers, school, and nation in prayer. I joined our students and was touched by their heartfelt prayers, specifically those for their teachers, our city, and the world. The student who prayed for the world asked, “Lord, please bless other places in the world like you have blessed the United States.” His words were so profound and literally changed how I now pray for world peace! This week has been a mix of emotions across our country and in our community, and no matter where we might be on the continuum of emotions, we can all agree that we live in a beautiful, prosperous, hopeful, and diverse place. Indeed, we are blessed!

As Veterans Day approaches, we take time to honor and express our deepest gratitude to the courageous men and women who have served and sacrificed in the United States Armed Forces. Veterans Day reminds us of the commitment, bravery, and dedication of those who have defended our freedoms and protected our nation. It reminds us that the freedom we enjoy each day isn’t free!

On Monday, Lago Vista High School will host our community’s heroes. We encourage our students, staff, and families to join us in celebrating these men and women and learning more about the importance of their service.

We also invite members of our school community who are veterans to join us as our special guests. Your presence would greatly enrich our celebration and serve as a powerful reminder to our students of the importance of service and patriotism.

On this Veterans Day, let us all take a moment to reflect on the contributions of our veterans and express our appreciation. Let us strive to instill in our students an understanding of the sacrifices made by these brave individuals and foster a spirit of gratitude within our community. Let us all see that they are the reason we give thanks and have the right to say, “Lord, please bless other places like you have blessed the United States.”

This special event will be held on Monday, November 11 from 10-11:30am in the main gym. If you'd like to attend, please follow these steps:

• Email Kellie Berry at kberry@lagovistaisd.net with the first and last names of everyone who will be attending the event.
• Enter the building at the back near the gym entrance. We will not be checking people in at the front of the building.
• Please plan to arrive a few minutes early as parking and check-in do take some time.
• ALL VISITORS WILL NEED TO SIT ON THE VISITOR SIDE during the event, unless you are Veteran or the family of a Veteran, then we will have a chair for you on the floor.

Each week we celebrate members of the LVHS faculty and staff based on student nominations. At the beginning of this week, our faculty and staff had 2 days of professional development. We had sessions on positive ways to use AI in classrooms, instructional tools to get students engaged, and how to deal with behavior issues when students are shaped by childhood trauma. We also had a Compass Session to learn about our work styles. Needless to say, our team is diverse and talented and a wonderful example of how it takes all kinds of Vikings to make the ship row smoothly! We love our LVHS Faculty & Staff!

Order Dates: Yard signs will be ordered three times per year: August 31, October 31, and January 31. Orders placed in between dates will be held until the next order date.
