Head Teacher's Message
Once again, we have had a very successful and busy start to the new term. Despite the unusually hot weather, students have settled in well. We understand that, after the long break, readjusting to school routines may result in students feeling more tired than usual. Therefore, do not be surprised if your child seems particularly fatigued this weekend.
Over the next two weeks, our staff look forward to meeting you at the relevant information evenings (please see dates below). These events offer a valuable opportunity to learn more about the year ahead, ways to support your child at home, and to meet your child's Head of Year and Academic Tutor.
This weekend, if you haven't already done so, please review your child's study planner. Specifically, ensure that you have read and signed page 6. Also, please take a moment to look through their new books and log in to the Parent Portal (Arbor).
Families with children in Years 8 to 11 will notice that we have updated some of our communication methods. Alongside the main school email address, a complete list of staff email addresses is available on our website here. You can find your child's teachers by logging into your Arbor account and checking your child’s timetable. Also, Arbor now provides more detailed information about merits and demerits, which we hope you will find useful.
We are also thrilled to share that, against a backdrop of national grade deflation, our students have surpassed last year's results. We are immensely proud of their achievements and are confident that our current and future Year 11 cohorts will continue this trend. For more information on this year's GCSE results, please visit our website.
Finally, I'm pleased to announce that work has commenced on our new sports centre and the redevelopment of the playing fields on Craneford Way is progressing well.
~ Ms K Dooley | Head Teacher

FORTS Information
Welcome to new Year 7 and all returning parents/carers!
We hope you have had a lovely summer break.
We are Friends of RTS (FoRTS) and we are your Parent Teacher Association (PTA). All parents/carers, as well as staff at RTS, are automatically members.
Our entry in the newsletter advises on upcoming events, pre-loved uniform sales and car parking marshalling. Most events are in conjunction with the school and so being involved is not as onerous as possibly you may have faced with PTAs in Junior and Primary schools.
We cannot function unless we have a pool of volunteers. The help we received last year was amazing so we would like to once again say a huge thank you to all the volunteers. All money raised goes to the full benefit of the RTS students through enhanced enrichment opportunities.
If you would like to be part of the fundraising team please email:
fortssecretary@rts.richmond.sch.uk
FoRTS are currently looking for a Treasurer and Secretary and Carmelle is holding a meeting this Friday 8th September at The Marriott, Twickenham at 5pm which shouldn’t take longer than an hour. If you are interested, please come along and look for her in her FoRTS lanyard to find out more about getting involved.
Pre-loved uniform
We will be selling pre-loved uniform at the school during events on 13th and 14th September - provided we have sufficient volunteers to run the stall.
Please come along to see what we have. If you have any uniform donations please ask your child to drop them off at reception when they enter school.
Rugby Parking
Marshalling the car park on rugby and event days is the biggest money maker for FoRTS. Last year we raised around £29,000 for the students of RTS which is an amazing amount. Again, we can’t do this unless we have a team of volunteers. If you are interested in joining the marshalling team’s Whatsapp group please email Rob on fortsparking@rts.richmond.sch.uk
AGM - 28 September, 5-6pm in the RTS Hall
The FoRTS Annual General Meeting is upcoming where we meet as a team and vote in the key official roles of Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. Please come along to meet us in person, hear about all our activities for the past academic year and get active in helping us this year. The AGM will precede the school’s Modern Foreign Language team’s International Food Evening where FoRTS will be providing drinks to purchase throughout the evening so please do come along for some fun.
