Straight from the Hardt
Hello Ridgeline Families- we turned the page this week and began the 2nd Academic Semester. Schedules and any necessary adjustments are being ironed out. At the same time, we’re only weeks away from registering for the 23-24 school year! The days and weeks seem to go by quickly, and it makes me think about our Seniors, Ridgeline’s first ever graduating class, who will be taking the stage on June 10 to make it official! I think I’m experiencing the same emotions as this class… I’m excited about history-in-the-making, but nervous, and also a little sad to see our “two-year” seniors go.
Tonight at 3:45 we are all coming together to support our Ridgeline Unified Basketball team as they play two games right here on our home court. I’m hearing about great involvement from staff, students, cheer, pep band, and more! It’s a cool event and our team is very excited to compete in front of their teachers and friends!
We encourage all Ridgeline students to at least consider attending extra-curricular functions, such as the Winter Formal Masquerade Ball coming up Saturday, Feb. 11. Even if you don’t dance—it’s fun to be with friends and classmates in a festive social setting that is safe and close to home!
We only have two more scheduled dances later this year. We’ll do a Mixer style themed dance during our March Verde Loco celebration, and wrap up the year with Prom- June 3rd!
We’re looking forward to honoring our Ridgeline Counseling staff next week during School Counselor Appreciation Week, Feb. 6-10. This amazing team does so much to take care of our students and I’m personally extremely thankful for what they do, how they do it, and the kind of people they are!
We had a cool moment on Wednesday when we recognized three Ridgeline athletes preparing to take their talents to the collegiate level. Signing Day saw Landon Coddington and Cameron Kreider both heading to St. Martins University to play soccer. Senior track and cross country stand-out, Alivia Bruno will be competing at Concordia University Irvine.
We need your help! As a member of the Strategic Planning Committee, I'm concerned we do not have enough Parent Voice yet on the direction of our district for the next 3-5 years. I'd be extremely grateful if we could have at least 10 Ridgeline parents participate in this zoom event coming up! More details are at the bottom of this issue, but here's the link! Wednesday, Feb. 8, 5:30pm.

Here’s a fun piece of Ridgeline history…Take a look behind the scenes at how we constructed the Ridgeline Brand way back when. Did you know all of our “marks” and “logos” are trademarked and 100% custom for Ridgeline High School.
Varsity Brands is a national company that serves both new and existing schools with many different services.

Thank you for your continued support of our staff, programs, and events that come together to make Ridgeline Great! Make it a great weekend! --Mr. Hardt

ASVAB Testing: An Alternate Graduation Pathway!
The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) offers Washington students multiple ways to meet their Graduation Pathway requirement, with the first being the SBAC (Math and English tests taken sophomore year). For those students who do not pass the SBAC, OSPI offers SIX ALTERNATE graduation pathways, and the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is ONE of them. Re-taking the SBAC is also one of them.
From 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 8, Ridgeline High School will offer the ASVAB to juniors and seniors who want to use it as an alternate Graduation Pathway and/or those who are interested in military service. NOTE: While the ASVAB is used by the US military to help place enlistees in jobs, the scores from this test will NOT be released to the military automatically. Students interested in military service will need to proactively release their scores to the military.
If your student wishes to register for the ASVAB, please encourage them to complete the form Mr. Spraggins posted in the Google classroom. If you and/or your student have questions, please speak to the grade level counselor (Mrs. McMurtrey mmcmurtrey@cvsd.org, Mrs. Twining, ktwining@cvsd.org) or Mr. Spraggins bspraggins@cvsd.org.

Solo & Group Ensemble
We are so proud of all of our participants at this year’s Northeast Division of Solo and Ensemble performers. 43 winners were selected from 43 categories of band, orchestra and vocal disciplines. Soloists on each instrument, small groups of 2-4, and large groups of 5-16 were given bids to the WIAA State Championships at CWU in April. Ridgeline’s music department won seven categories, sending 22 kids total to State. Our school also qualified twenty other groups as alternates to State, with another 51 students who qualified. Alternates won’t know if they make the random draw until mid March. Congrats EVERYONE for making music at such high quality to be recognized by the professionals in our region.
