A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Luther Burbank Families,
This week's message begins with an enormous THANK YOU! Thank you to the Lancaster PTO and thank you to all of our families for showering our staff with care and lots and LOTS of treats during Teacher Appreciation week last week. WOW! From donuts to chips to ice cream, our staff felt the love each and every day. The week concluded with school supplies, a secret raffle, and a visit from the Frozen Hoagies food truck. It was a lot of fun to see our teachers return to their classroom with an overstuffed ice cream sandwich in hand. After seeing the ice cream sandwiches go by, one student stopped me in the hallway and remarked, "Mrs. Friend, I'm glad the teachers got a special treat today. They deserve it." My response, "I couldn't agree more. They ABSOLUTELY do." I am not quite sure what was sweeter, the ice cream sandwich or that comment. Well, actually, I do know - the comment, for sure. We definitely have the best students (and teachers) at LBMS.
Speaking of "the best," last week brought some great news on the student and community front. On the student front, four of our 7th grade students took TOP HONORS in the Woods Hole Data Jam Competition, a competition sponsored by the Northeast U.S. Shelf Long Term Ecological Research (NES-LTER) project based at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Students submitted a collaborative data-informed project which was then evaluated by scientists associated with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. Please read, below, for more information. Congrats to our student scientists!
On the community front, our Luther Burbank Best Buddies Chapter was recognized as a Top Fundraising Team during the Best Buddies Friendship Walk at Polar Park on Saturday. A special thank you to Mrs. Lonardo and to all of our students and families who participated in these fundraising efforts. A special thank you, as well, to those students and families who gave their time to participate in Saturday's walk. Best Buddies is an incredibly meaningful program that empowers the special abilities of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are proud of our LBMS Best Buddies program which, notably, was one of the first middle school chapters to be established in Massachusetts.
