What's Up At The Nest...
Principal's Message
Dear OMS families,
We hope you all had a wonderful week! The snow has been a joy these past couple of weeks, but we are not so sure about these below zero temperatures. Please continue to send your child with all their winter gear in hopes that the temperatures permit us to get some fresh air!
Happy Super Bowl Sunday!
Erin and Julia
Attendance
ALL ABSENCES MUST BE REPORTED ON THE ONLINE ABSENCE FORM, OR BY A CALL TO OUR FRONT OFFICE, NOT BY A CALL OR EMAIL TO YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER.
How do I report an absence? If your child is unable to attend school on a specific day, there are two ways to report an absence. Please click HERE to record absence information using our online form which is located on our school website on the Absence page. You may also call our office to report an absence. This year, when you call our school’s main line at 847-398-4282, you will initially hear an auto attendant. You will be prompted with a few options: press “1” to report the absence; press 2 for the nurse; press “0” or remain on the line for the front office. This procedure not only helps us fulfill necessary attendance obligations as required by Illinois law, but it also helps us to monitor the safety of our students en route to school.
If we do not receive notification of your child’s absence, a phone call will be made to your home, to your work number, to your cell phone number, or to the person listed on the child’s emergency form to verify the absence. Please provide the following information when calling in a student’s absence:
- Student’s name and grade
- Teacher’s name/section number
- Reason for absence
- Duration of absence – morning, afternoon, or for the entire day
Nurse's Note
Dear Olive Families,
You have all been wonderful about informing me of illness and keeping your children home when they are under the weather or you are travelling. I know there are added inconveniences to return to school this year, and I appreciate your understanding in this matter. I wanted to take a moment to send a few reminders/explanations.
Please continue to email or call to inform me of illness. We are asking to keep ALL children in your household home, even if only one is sick. It is a precaution we must take while we gather the appropriate testing or other information to clear them for return to school. I am required to send home siblings if one of your children is absent due to illness. The same applies to other household members. If a parent/guardian is ill and being screened for Covid, please keep everyone home until you have these answers. If someone in your household has a pending Covid test, the same applies. Please stay home until you have the results. If the student is the one who was tested, please send me copies of the result via email or fax.
Once you obtain a clearance from your child’s doctor or negative Covid testing for return to school, please contact me and wait for my response. I need to see the clearance to return, notify the office, and inform the teachers of your student’s return BEFORE I can allow them into the building. If I am caring for a student, this may take me some time. I will do my best to get your children back in school as quickly and safely as possible.
If your family is exposed to a Covid positive individual within 48 hours of them becoming ill or testing positive, you MUST be quarantined from school for 14 days from exposure. If your child is positive for Covid, they MUST isolate for 10 days.
If I have EXCLUDED your child from school for quarantine or isolation, they may Zoom into school virtually. I need to inform their teachers to allow them onto the Zoom for the dates they are out of the building. The teachers will not be set up for Zoom unless I let them know a child is excluded from being here in person.
Thank you all for your continued support during this very different school year. The kids are doing an exceptional job here at school and I am impressed daily by this community as a whole. The information is overflowing, confusing, and ever-changing with all of this, so please reach out to me with any questions. We can get through this together!
Thank you all so much,
School Nurse
