Dublin High School
January 29, 2024
A Note From Dr. Overstreet... This past week was an amazing week at Dublin High School! I am extremely proud of our students and staff for what they have accomplished in this first half of the school year.
DHS 1st Semester Honors' Day Program: High Achievement and Success for All Students: Here in Dublin City Schools, we believe in “high achievement and success for all students.” We take pride in celebrating our scholars and their many accomplishments in the classroom, on the stage and on the court. But, at Dublin High School-Georgia, today was all about ACADEMICS! More than 200 students were recognized for earning all A’s the first semester of the 2023-2024 school year, while an additional 260 earned AB Honor Roll. Additional awards earned during today’s ceremony included: End of Pathway Completers, Perfect Attendance, RESA Writing Award, Math Inventory Growth Achievement, Reading Inventory Growth Achievement and End of Course Achievements.
Congratulations also go to: A’Nya Abrian, Edwardo Bigelow, DeShawn Blackshear, Ja’Nathan Buckner, Jalia Carr, MyKerria Carrey, Taj Carswell, Azzure Clark, Chase Colbert, Honesti Coley, Sariya Coombs, Jalen Coneway, John Darcy Biana Edmond, Kayden Hope, Maurice Linder, Jakayla Lyons, Emily Maddox, Kingston McClarin, Emma Claire McDaniel, Martavious Mitchell, Caitlyn Nesbitt, Malachi O’Neal, Mikey Patisaul, Marcus Rayner II, Xavier Reese, Jaden Renfroe, Talisha Rosier, Melissa Sanchez, E’maria Ransom-Scruggs, Erika Simmons, Jaiden Washington, Journey Washington, Jasonia White, Larissa Wilbur, Armani Williams, Kashonna Wright and Kahlil Young for receiving Irish Excellence Awards. Each student was nominated by their teachers for outstanding citizenship, growth or achievement.
THE WAY College and Career Academy: This Week, we’re showcasing the Dublin City Schools College and Career Academy’s Construction Pathway. Under the direction of Mike Shepard, it became the FIRST pathway at Dublin High School-Georgia to earn Industry Certification.
Industry Certification is the culmination of a rigorous, two-year process made possible thanks to the combined partnership of Construction Ready and the Georgia Department of Education.
“It signals that our classroom, its curriculum, the work-based learning opportunities as well as the CTSO (career and technical student organization) opportunities provided to Dublin High School students are all in line with construction industry standards,” explained Ben Lanier, CEO of the College and Career Academy. The apex of program quality for College and Career Academies, this process serves as a mark of distinction for the program and attests to its high quality.
In fact, thanks to skills mastered in our simulated work environment like basic safety, plumbing, electrical and carpentry, “construction pathway completers leave knowing how to frame a home," added Shepard. But, earning this distinction required more than just delivering exceptional lessons; Shepard also had to establish lasting connections with local businesses and industry partners. And, in turn, these partners offered valuable hands-on experiences for our students. For its efforts, The WAY’s Construction Pathway will receive a grant from the Georgia legislature to purchase new tools and equipment. Fighting Irish Family, congratulate our students and staff for this stellar achievement for our district and community. And, stay tuned for more inspiring stories from our College and Career Academy!
Prom: The Prom Committee has set the Prom Date for Friday, April 26th. Prom will be held in the Rotunda at the high school. The theme this year is "Masquerade Ball, A Night to Remember!" More information will be shared with juniors and seniors in the coming days.
21st Century After School Program: The 21st Century Afterschool Program is available to all students. The 21st Century Program is an after-school program for students who are in need of extra help or tutoring for core academic subjects they are currently enrolled in this semester. Students can also recover credits for courses they may have previously failed in order to get back on track for graduation. The afternoon program is Monday - Thursday from 2:30 until 5:30. Bus transportation along with an afterschool meal are provided. For more information, please contact Ms. Madison, the school's Graduation Coach at 478-353-8040.

Go Irish!

When the Irish traveled to Swainsboro in Week 10, they put it all on the line and headed home with a 41-20 victory. While Dublin’s fortunes didn’t fare the same at Brooks County in the GHSA Class A playoffs, the Tigers beat the Trojans en route to a state runner-up finish.
“Winning the state championship isn’t easy. The best team doesn’t always win the trophy,” said Coach Roger Holmes. “This team was close. They really were. The reason they were close to being right there was this group of seniors. They had each other’s back.”
The Irish capped a 9-3 season-one where they averaged nearly 41 points per game and allowed less than 14, and made it to the second round of the Class A State Playoffs-by recognizing individual excellence at their annual banquet held Tuesday in the DHS Auditorium.
The Irish were led on offense by Junior Fullback, Xavier Bostic, who rushed for 1,033 yards and 15 TDs, and fellow Junior Micah O’Neal, who rushed for 314 yards and 10 scored, and added another seven touchdowns and 335 yards through the air. The Irish finished the season with 3,486 yards of total rushing, averaging close to 300 per game.
Bostic also led the way on defense, accounting for 48 tackles (32 solo, 16 asst.) and three interceptions, followed closely by Senior Demari Foster with 44 tackles (36 solo, 8 asst.). Junior Brandon Chatman led the team with 5.5 sacks, followed by fellow Senior Drew Rozier with four.
That effort is part of why 19 Irish were named to the 2023 All Region team, along with five selections to the All-State squad.

Coach Ben Lanier Winning the County Championship!
Coach Ben Lanier Winning the County Championship!
County Champs!!! (2-of-2)
If finishing 3rd at last year’s GHSA Class A Individual Wrestling Championships was Tank Brihm’s highlight to this point, he may have an argument for his performance tonight. With the Irish holding a 39-33 lead in the final match of the night, Brihm attacked early and often, securing the pin with 54 seconds left in the period for the win, and bragging rights for the Irish. The Dublin Irish are Laurens County Champions for the first time since 2004, after defeating East Laurens 63-15, and West Laurens 45-33. Dublin was down as many as 11 points, 27-16, with five matches remaining, but rallied off three pins and one tech fall to rally for the win. Dublin returns to action this weekend in the Vidalia Onion Classic, before hosting Traditional Area February 3.
Congratulations Irish!!!
