February FCE Staff Appreciation Initiative
💗 Be My Valentine 💗
Friends and families of FCE, we need your help pulling off a new and fun way to celebrate our staff at Fall Creek Elementary.
Families can sponsor a staff member as their Valentine for the month of February and spoil them throughout by sending in snacks/treats, a favorite drink, dropping off a quick lunch, or anything else you think they would love!
It's super easy but we need 65 families to pair up with the 65 staff members. That's a lot of help from you, but I know we can be successful and I'm fairly certain our staff will LOVE it too!
Sign Up Genius is open and ready for you!
Thank you for always being so kind & generous while showing our appreciating for the staff at FCE.

Student Handbook Feedback
Every year, we gather input from various stakeholder groups about possible revisions to our Student Handbook. Please consider reviewing our current Student Handbook through our school website link https://fce.hseschools.org/our-school/student-handbook and offering feedback for enhancement by the end of February. These suggestions could be revisions, removals, or additions. Please share all suggestions by using this Forms Link: https://forms.office.com/r/g1mZP6XSAD Thank you for your assistance in this important process!
FCE YEARBOOK
Equity Corner
Acceptance:
Children need to learn to accept others for who they are instead of pretending that differences don’t exist. Parents or caregivers can help prepare children to accept and understand others by teaching them acceptance, celebrating differences and exposing them to many different activities. Learning about diversity, equity and inclusion is a lifelong process.

SEL Lessons Week 20
KINDERGARTEN
Summary:
In this week’s lesson, your child will learn two ways to help themselves feel calm when they encounter strong feelings: asking for help and slow breathing.
Try This at Home:
Ask your child to tell you some ways they’ve learned to feel calm when they get upset. Have them teach you how to use slow breathing to feel calm.
FIRST GRADE
Summary:
In this week’s lesson, your child will show that they can use body language and context clues to figure out how someone is feeling. They’ll also show that they know ways to help themselves feel calm when they encounter strong feelings.
Try this at Home:
Ask your child to tell you some ways they’ve learned to feel calm when they get upset. Have them teach you how to use slow counting to feel calm.
SECOND GRADE:
Summary:
In this week’s lesson, your child will learn that people can have different feelings in the same situation because of their experiences.
Try This at Home:
Ask your child for an example of something that people can have different feelings about. Talk about the reasons people might have different feelings about it.
THIRD GRADE:
Summary:
In this week’s lesson, your child will learn how empathy—the ability to understand and feel how someone else is feeling—and kindness can help build new friendships.
Try this at Home:
Ask your child what kind things they could they do to build a friendship with someone.
FOURTH GRADE:
Summary:
In this week’s lesson, your child will learn the “What? When? How Much?” framework for describing their media choices. They will use this framework and their emotional responses to evaluate how healthy different types of media choices are and will begin to develop their own definition of healthy media balance.
Try this at Home:
Discuss with your child what they have identified as a healthy media balance for them and how they plan to create a media balance that fits in with their family, friends, and school life, as well as other hobbies they have.

General Head Lice Information
From time to time, a case of head lice is reported to the school throughout the year. Should a case of head lice be brought to the school’s attention, the school nurse will maintain confidentiality of the student’s identity and assist the staff and parents with educational material. While the odds of your son or daughter developing a case of head lice are relatively small, the following includes useful information on head lice and the signs and symptoms.
Head Lice Information
• Head Lice are small parasitic insects that can be found on the heads of people.
• Head lice feed on human blood several times a day and live close to the human scalp.
• Head lice and head lice nits are found on the scalp, around and behind the ears and near
the neckline at the back of the head.
• Head lice cannot fly or jump; they can only crawl
• Head lice are spread by direct head‐to‐head contact
• Head lice are rarely spread by contact with clothing or personal items (such as combs,
brushes, hats or coats)
• Head lice are not a sign of uncleanliness
• Head lice are not known to spread disease.
Signs and symptoms of head lice infestation
• Tickling feeling of something moving in the hair
• Itching, caused by an allergic reaction to the bites of the head louse
• Irritability and difficulty sleeping; head lice are most active in the dark
• Sores on the head caused by scratching
If your child exhibits signs and symptoms of head lice infestation, you should examine your
child’s head (especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck) for crawling lice and nits. If
crawling lice and/or nits have been found, all household members should be examined for head
lice and/or nits every 3‐4 days. Persons with live (crawling) lice or nits within ¼ inch or less of
the scalp should be treated.
For more information on head lice and treatment go to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) web site at http://www.cdc.gov
Please be aware that we staff members do not disclose the name of the student, name of the teacher nor grade level to other families in order to provide student/family confidentiality. We do ask that if your child does have lice, please notify the school and those individuals/families that your child has been in close contact with.
Parent Volunteers & Safe Visitor Background Checks
If you are planning to visit or volunteer at FCE this year during school hours, you will need a Safe Visitor Background Check. There will be several opportunities for parent volunteers here at FCE, including FIELD TRIPS, FIELD DAY, etc. In order to volunteer at a school event during school hours (or attend a PTO meeting during school hours), you must have a current SafeVisitor background check on file. In order to obtain your Safe Visitor pass, please click on the link below and follow the directions. Please keep in mind it sometimes takes a few weeks to process, so be sure you give yourself plenty of time!
