Vikan Knights, ARMOR Up!
From Principal Velez
Dear Community,
These past weeks we celebrated our Knights for their growth towards living and exemplifying our values of ARMOR. Students who received a Positive Office Referral during Q1 were invited to a feast cooked by our Admin staff and SRO Covarrubias. Students who participated in athletics, clubs, and leadership were also invited. More than 400 Knights received an invitation. Our Dean of Students, Coach Torres, organized the event.
Great work Knights!!
Stay strong Vikan...and ARMOR up!

Day of the Day Altar
The Spanish and ELD classes learned about a Mexican tradition, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). While a holiday focused on those who've passed away, Día de Muertos is a joyful occasion. It's a true celebration of life, marked by costumes and makeup, festive foods, parades, humor and decorative tributes to the dead.
The Day of the Dead has roots in indigenous Aztec culture. Traditions like the ofrenda originated from the Aztec practices of honoring the dead by placing offerings at tree stumps. When Spanish colonizers arrived in the 16th century, they moved Día de Muertos from the summer to November 1st and 2nd.
Día de Muertos occurs over the course of two days, starting at midnight on November 1st, and ending November 2nd. Modern observances of the tradition refer to November 1st as Día de Inocentes ("Day of the Innocents") or Día de Angelitos ("Day of the Little Angels"), honoring children and babies who were lost.
On November 2nd it is believed that the souls of the dead return to visit their living family members.

As the weather changes and gets colder, we want to let you know that students will have an inside day if the temperature is below 20 degrees. Please make sure that your student is properly dressed for the weather and please remind them to bring a jacket/coat with them.
As a reminder students are not allowed to bring blankets to school.

Morning Arrival and Pick up
Please help us out by making sure that your child is at school no later than 8:15 AM. We are having a large number of students arriving after 8:30 AM. If you drop off your child at 8:30, they are already 5-10 minutes late to class. It is imperative that you support your student in making sure that they get to school on time...on time is 8:15 AM.
If you are picking up your child at the end of the school day, please do so before 4:15 p.m. to give us plenty of time to get them from their classes. We are not able to call students after 4:15 because the bell would ring before we are able to get to them. Students might be in PE, working on a science project, or finishing up an assignment. Getting ready to leave takes time.
Thank you in advance for your support in making sure you child arrives at school on time.
