Updates from our School Nurse
Spare Clothing - If you student has an extra set of clothes at LMES, please consider updating to a Winter Set since the weather will most likely be cooler for the next several months.
It's allergy season! If your student has seasonal allergies or asthma symptoms due to seasonal allergies, please consider giving them their medications routinely. Warmer weather is expected next week which means everything will start to bloom. Giving medication on a routine basis over the next 1-2 weeks should help to improve the effectiveness and keep your student comfortable.
Other helpful hints: Have student wash face/glasses when coming in from outside. Change clothes when coming in from outside. Shower/bath daily, before bed to remove pollen from hair, body, and face.

Volunteering
Are you interested in volunteering with the PTA? If so, you must complete the online training for Baltimore County Public Schools. This training must be completed each school year prior to volunteering at any event where children are present. Some examples of events where PTA has needed volunteers include: Trunk-or-Treat, American Education Week, Teacher Appreciation Week, Fundraisers, Multicultural Night, Reflections arts program, or providing support onsite at school during the day!

Resources and Supports
Baltimore County Public Schools have already started planning for summer learning in 2024. As we work to increase achievement for all students by providing a variety of pathways to prepare students for college and careers, students who require additional learning at the end of the 2023-2024 school year will need to attend a summer program to help them be successful in the next grade level. Additional information about summer program offerings will be shared with students and families throughout the school year.
Below is a list of resources and supports that you and your student should consider accessing throughout the next three marking periods in order to maximize academic success in the 2023-2024 school year.
- Make sure your student is on time and attends school daily. Research show that student who miss more than 10 days of school (excused or unexcused) each year are more likely to perform low below their same age peers. Please reach out to Ms. Hayman-Hamilton, our school social worker for additional support jhaymanhamilton@bcps.org
- Grade 1-5 - Set up daily or weekly “Parent Digest” notifications from Schoology to monitor your student’s activity in each class. Directions for setting up notifications can be found here.
- Each night review your child's LMES planner and homework assignments
- Read, read, read for at least 20 minutes every night. You can read to your child, or they can read to you!
- Students in Grades K-3 engage in additional reading supports via Amira for at least 10 minutes daily - they can access Amira from home, too!
View the Bridges Mathematics Family Website to learn more about what your child is learning and how you can help them learn and grow in the area of mathematics https://www.mathlearningcenter.org/curriculum/family-support
Ameria
Amira marries speech recognition and artificial intelligence with the Science of Reading to deliver personalized and in-the-moment tutoring to students as they practice.
How Do I Check My Child's Grades?
You can check your students grades, missing assignments, and test score in Schoology. For more information about setting up a Schoology account or to download the Schoology app click here.
Arriving Late?
Arrival is between 8:30 and 8:40. The bell rings at 8:40. It is very important that all students arrive to school by 8:40.
All students are expected to be in their seats and ready to begin the instructional day at 8:45 a.m. Students arriving after 8:45 a.m. are considered late and should follow these guidelines:
1. Enter through the main door and report to the office.
2. A parent must accompany the student(s) into the office and sign their child in.
