Dragon News
Findley Elementary School
February 26, 2021
Message from the Principal
Greetings Findley Families,
This evening, you will receive communication from BSD regarding our Return to In Person Instruction Plan. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions you may have.
You may have heard the news this week that the United States Department of Education will be requiring state testing this year, unlike they did last year. Although it is still possible that for the state of Oregon this requirement would be waived, at this time, we must move forward with planning. I wanted to be sure you had the following information to consider as we head back to in person learning and potential state testing:
2020-21 30-Day Notice for Statewide Tests
Under the Student Assessment Bill of Rights, the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and Oregon’s school districts must provide families with a Notice of Statewide Tests and Opt-out Form 30 days before the start of statewide testing.
This year, school has been significantly disrupted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and other factors. In response, ODE plans to ask the United States Department of Education for a temporary pause (also known as a “waiver”) in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math testing. A pause is also being requested for science testing, but science testing is not subject to this opt-out rule.
If this waiver request is approved, then statewide ELA and Math testing will not happen this year, and there will be no need for parents to submit opt-out forms to their child’s school.
If the waiver request is not approved, test windows will open on March 4, 2021.
ODE will update the district regularly with news about the waiver.
Also, just as a reminder, state testing is only for 3rd-5th graders. At this time, I have no dates or logistics to share with you, but I will as soon they are known.
I hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend! Don’t forget to go shopping at our on-line book fair.

NOTE FROM THE BUSINESS OFFICE
The district is asking us to help remind families that there are still Device fees to be collected for the 20/21 school year. This was an option at verification that many families chose to cover any damage to the iPad or chrome book that has been borrowed by you.
Findley alone has $600.00 in Chrome book fees left to be paid with an additional $529.38 in library lost book fees that have not been collected. Please log in and make sure that these fees have been paid for your student(s).
Parents if you are not sure how to do this, please follow these steps.
a. Beaverton School District Website
b. Families > Apps for parents/Guardians > Online Payment System Login
c. Chose Students name
d. Click on Red View button above Shop (If there is No Red Button, there are NO fines)
This will give you a breakdown of the fees & fines that are due. Fines for Library Books which you plan to return will be removed when the book is checked back in.
**If you would rather pay by cash or check, please bring exact change to the office and we will credit that payment for you. Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm**
PICTURE DAY MARCH 10 - Appointments still available
OBOB UPDATE
Hello Findley Dragons…
Our teams are registered and battles will begin on Monday March 8th. The schedule can be found beginning Monday March, 1st on the OBOB website. Findley
Website>Academics>OBOB under the Battle Schedule Tab. Battles will be scheduled for half an hour each and will be done during our lunch time, and Wednesday mornings. We will have 2 weeks of battles, the first week each team will battle twice during Preliminary Rounds.
The second week will be our Elimination Rounds, Elite Eight, Fab Four, Top Two. The final battle for school champion will be Thursday March 18th.
The battles will take place over Zoom meetings. At this point we are not allowing spectators into the Zoom battles.
Dr. Marsh has generously purchased us special commemorative t-shirts which will be available in a couple of weeks. When they arrive we will work out a pick up schedule. I am also looking for parents to help monitor the battles with me; if you are interested please contact me, there will be an instructional meeting before the battles begin.
I will be hosting an Informational Zoom Meeting for Participants and Parents, Monday, March 1st, at 2:30pm, please email and let me know if you would like to attend.
So Findley Dragons please continue to Read Read Read. Practice questions to prepare for battles may be found on the Beaverton City Library
