Academic Awards Celebrations
In the month of May we recognized students for academic achievement during our academic awards celebrations. Awards were selected by various subject domains to honor students who have soared in the classroom and show much dedication to their academics. Students in grade 9-12 were recognized for their academic achievements. During their ceremony juniors were also awarded junior Book Awards. Book Awards are prestigious awards that are generally sponsored by a specific alumnus of a college or by the school’s Alumni Association and are presented to juniors who have demonstrated great academic achievement, leadership, service, and character. During the senior award and scholarship night seniors were presented with local scholarships. Over the next few weeks, the awards and recipients will be published in the Amherst Citizen.
Souhegan High School is Seeking host families for 15 days in October 2023.
For the first time since the Covid pandemic, Souhegan High School is welcoming German exchange students to our community. We have a 16-year history of hosting students from university prep high schools in the Mannheim region of Germany. This venture is in cooperation with Nashua High School. Students will arrive on October 14, 2023, and stay with host families until October 30, 2023. They will attend three days at the high school and spend the rest of their time touring points of interest and history in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.
Visiting students will need the following:
A Souhegan student to be their host
Accommodations to include a bed/bedroom and meals
Transportation to and from school during the two weeks
Evenings and weekends spent with a host family
Souhegan students are then welcome to visit families in Germany during the April vacation of 2024 but that is not required. This tradition of cultural exchange has led to wonderful experiences and lifetime friendships for many Souhegan alumni.
Info Center
All students in grades 9-11 should sign up for summer reading on the Souhegan Reads 2023 website home page. This year, students can select a book from a curated list of titles (browse by genre on the website) or a book of their choice. Signing up prior to the summer enables us to organize the fall programming based on student choice. Titles from the list are available in the Info Center until the end of the year, and then at both town libraries throughout the summer.

Erika Lillis
What is your role at Souhegan?
I am a math teacher, volleyball coach, and community council staff representative.
How long have you been with Souhegan?
This is my first year working at Souhegan.
What do you love about your job?
There's a lot of things I love about my job at Souhegan but I am gonna settle on a top five.
1) I love when I can help a student become more confident in themselves.
2) I love the way that when I ask students "comments, questions, concerns, or fun facts", I have one student that tells me a fun fact every single day. (Did you know that Q is the only letter that is not used in all 50 states.)
3) I love walking into the unified basketball game and seeing the largest student section of the year!
4) I love the way I am allowed to participate in the staff dance even though I am the self proclaimed worst dancer.
5) I love the way that you cannot walk down a hallway without someone saying hello!
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love to play volleyball in my free time. This summer I am going to travel to Pennsylvania and Wisconsin to play in some of the biggest grass volleyball tournaments in the country. If it's a gorgeous day, and I have a little free time, you might be able to see me throwing javelin, another one of my pastimes. Other than that, I love to bake and play disc golf with my friends and family.
If you were given one wish what would it be?
I wish that I was not allergic to dogs. That way I could have a corgi of my own!
Do you have a favorite quote or mantra?
Practice makes progress not perfection.

I wish for world peace AND to be able to do Tik Tok dances at the first try! ;)
