A Leader in Me School - February 2021
A Message From Your Principal - THANK YOU Central PTO for the New Digital Piano!
Our Central Elementary music program received a very special gift from our Central PTO this semester. Mrs. Katie Walters, Central Music Teacher, was seeking to make an upgrade to her decades old upright piano. After sharing her dream of incorporating a digital piano into future music programming at Central, the PTO was able to support that vision with the purchase of a new Yamaha Clavinova digital piano.
“I have extreme gratitude to the PTO for their generosity in purchasing this instrument that will be used for many years to come. There’s no need to tune the digital piano and that will certainly help with the budget,” Mrs. Walters said.
Mrs. Walters says the instrument will allow her to incorporate the digital piano as a learning station in her classroom. Students will be able to learn and explore other instrument sounds and practice their skills with a technology tool known as ‘Piano Room Teacher’.
“Someday I hope to be able to have students record themselves as they practice. It will also be very helpful to our concert performances for years to come,” said Mrs. Walters.
To provide an opportunity for our Central parent community to explore the musical range of the Yamaha Clavinova, Mrs. Walters prepared a video tour of the instrument. To learn more about this new instrument please click on the link below.
Thank you to our Central PTO and our Central families for your continued financial report that make a big impact in our school!
Yours in education,
Rebecca Outcalt

Sunshine Spreaders - Valentines Fun
Our very own Sunshine Spreaders brought joy to our Valentine season. These four fifth-graders put their heads together to write a great scavenger hunt for the entire school. Each class was able to follow the clues which landed them with some sweet treats provided by the club. We appreciate their efforts to make this Covid Valentines a special one!
Mrs. Warren's class not only provided the last clue but did so with an extra loud Tiger Cub RRRROOOOAAAARRRR!1st Grade Celebrated 120 Days of School
2nd Grade Completed STEM Projects
We used the Engineering Design Process to complete our STEM projects in class by working together in groups.
- Project 1: They were told that a worm named Fred needed help. His boat flipped over and his life preserver was under the boat. He cannot swim! The kids worked in groups to come up with ideas to help save him using only paper clips.
- Project 2: They were asked to work together to build the tallest tower using only index cards. We had a group that built a tower that was 22 ½ inches tall! Cool ideas!
