In case you missed Mr. Collins' text message, we are going to have a crazy Monday! It is going to be Belated Crazy Hair Day, Fall T-Shirt Day, Faculty Dress Down Day, and Quarter One Honor Roll/Recognition Popsicles Day.

We ask that the students bring in a voluntary $1.00 donation. The monies will be donated to an SMM family in need. Students must wear their uniform bottoms with their Fall Shirts.

Please make sure your children have their water bottles everyday. Ms. Susan said that there has been an increasing number of students who come to the office for a bottle of water. We have a limited supply of bottled water for those students who take medicine.

We have two water filling stations for students to use to refill their bottles during the day.

Description:In support of the NO BOTTOM LEFT BEHIND campaign sponsored by Smile Doctors and SMH/OCHSNER, we will be collecting donations of infant and adult diapers in the morning carline during the week of November 2-6.

November 2 - 6 has been designated as School Food Service Employee Appreciation Week. Not only does the school cafeteria staff provide nutritious meals for our students, they try to make the cafeteria experience a pleasant one for the students. Check out their Halloween decorations in the picture.

The combination locks have arrived! We have created a blue locker hall for 7th graders and a red one for 5th and 6th graders. A schedule of times will be made available when students are to enter the locker hall. The policy will be "Get n' Go" with no socializing in the halls. Masks must be worn at all times.

We are anxiously awaiting the November update form the governor. We hope that the students will be able to start moving classes and use their lockers then.

In the meantime, students may rent their lockers for a fee of $3.00 which has been billed to and is payable through your FACTS accounts.

IMPORTANT: Due to an increase in student passwords being used by others, we will institute a detention for any student who is logging into another student's account. Updates will be made to the handbook.

We celebrated students who had birthdays during the months of July through October on WSSM these past few weeks. Since we still had to socially distance and maintain our static groups, we did it by homerooms in grades K through 2. Grades 3 through 7 were done by grade level. We will continue in this mode until we can mix static groups. Students will be expected to wear their masks the entire time. Every few weeks, we will work through the cycle. Here is the schedule for the upcoming week:

I was born and raised in New Orleans. I went to St. Raphael elementary school and I attended Cabrini for high school. I have an associates degree in elementary education from Delgado Community College and a bachelor’s degree from UNO. I was on the UNO dance team. I moved to Slidell in 1997.

My mom, Karen Soulet, was a teacher and I spent a lot of time watching her and learning from her. I have been teaching for 26 years with 14 being at SMM. I taught at Lake Castle in New Orleans until Hurricane Katrina disrupted our lives. After getting it all back together, I returned to teaching in 2007 at SMM.

My desire for teaching came early in my adult life. One day, while substituting in a first-grade class, a little girl was having trouble learning how to tell time. After explaining it to her a few times, she looked up at me and said, "Oh, I get it!" The look in her eyes was a look that I wanted to continue to make happen. I am currently a Kindergarten teacher and I teach all subjects. I have previously taught PreK-3 & PreK-4 at SMM.

When I am not planning lessons and thinking of creative activities for my students, I enjoy shopping and spending time with my family. My mom and dad used to enjoy going to the casinos together. My mom passed away in April of this year and now my siblings and I go with my dad. I also spend time with my sons, Jared and Jacob. On the weekends, we go fishing, four-wheeling, and cruising with my husband, John, in his Mustang convertible.

Family is extremely important to me and that is why I teach at SMM. It is my second home. I enjoy and cherish the family atmosphere that is at Saint Margaret Mary.

Pope John Paul II High School has officially rescheduled their 2020 Open House for Wednesday, November 18 from 5:30-8pm. The online registration link is www.pjp.org/future-jaguars/.

Here’s some information regarding how PJP is following the COVID-19 guidelines for Open House:

• All guests must reserve an appointment in advance. Walk-ins are not permitted.
• Every 15 minutes, 5 families will be scheduled for their tour check-in. Faculty/staff will monitor entrance for social distancing and masks. Masks will be worn the entire time by everyone.
• Families will be toured through the campus by 1 or 2 PJP Student Ambassadors. Ambassadors/Faculty/Staff will remain socially distant from the families.
• The essential/required faculty/staff will attend. No additional personnel or students will be present.
• There will be NO general gathering at any time.

Their plan is to have almost 50 slots available for families on Open House night. They are also providing the following options, which will be scheduled on an individual basis as requested:

1. Private/personal tours for a family on campus outside of regular school hours.
2. Virtual tour/appointment via Zoom

Attention, all Louisiana citizens: on the November 3rd election ballot, you will be asked, “Do you support an amendment declaring that, to protect human life, a right to abortion & the funding of abortion shall NOT be found in the Louisiana Constitution?” Please vote YES for Amendment #1. In Louisiana, we love babies & their mothers, so we want to make sure that no judge “finds” a right to abortion or the taxpayer funding of abortion in our Constitution as they have done in 13 other states.
