Beadle Lake Families,
Due to our snow days, we are still taking the NWEA MAP test that assesses reading and math skills. Please make sure that your child is well rested, on time and ready to learn. The NWEA MAP test is a computer adaptive test—which means every student gets a unique set of test questions based on their responses to previous questions. The purpose of MAP Growth is to determine what the student knows and is ready to learn next. MAP Growth tracks student growth over time – wherever they are starting from and regardless of the grade they are in. For instance, if a third grader is reading like a fifth grader, MAP Growth will be able to identify that. Or, if a fifth grader is doing math like a third grader, MAP Growth will identify that, too. Both things are incredibly important for teachers to know so that they can plan instruction efficiently.
Families, thank you for having your child in school every day!
Why IS Attendance so Important?
· A missed day of school is a missed opportunity for kids to learn.
· There is a strong relationship between student attendance and student achievement.
· Students who miss fewer days become better readers.
· Attending school provides time for social interaction.
· Regular attendance fosters a community between the students and the teacher.

Check out this book ...
A young biracial girl looks around her world for her color. She finally chooses her own color and creates a new word for herself—honeysmoke. For multiracial children, and all children everywhere, this picture book offers a universal message that empowers young people to create their own self-identity. Honeysmoke by Monique Fields is an amazing book that all can enjoy.

Greetings BLE Families & Loved Ones,
For the month of February, we are continuing to focus on kindness: particularly, being Friendly! We are going to work together, to be intentional not only with the way we speak to ourselves, but to others. Further, we are going to set daily goals to challenge ourselves to help make someone else’s day better by going out of our way to be friendly, and include others!
Girls on the Run
What is Girls on the Run all about? (...because it's so much more than just running?)
Girls on the Run is our program for girls in 3rd-5th grade that encourages girls to recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others.
Each season, girls gain a better understanding of who they are and what important to them, the value of teamwork and healthy relationships and how they can have a positive impact on the world.
Girls also make a meaningful contribution to their community through a team-organized Community Impact Project.
Physical activity is woven into the program to inspire an appreciation for fitness and healthy habits and teach life skills including treating others with care, practicing gratitude and managing emotions.
Each season culminates with a Girls on the Run 5K event. This celebratory, non-competitive event provides girls with a sense of accomplishment and instills the value of goal setting at a young age.

This month is Black History Month. All month we will be sharing some excellent school wide read alouds. We will be learning about many famous Black Americans who were bold, brave, and helped to change the world. We will be reading Little Leaders- Bold Women in Black History and Little Leaders- Exceptional Men in Black History, both written by Vashti Harrison. We will highlight one leader each day of the month. Another read aloud will be Meet Miss Fancy, written by, Irene Latham. This inspiring story is a story of finding a way to challenge segregation laws.
A calendar will be sent home later this week sharing information about learning opportunities in our community. These are wonderful family events. There are always fun opportunities for story time at Willard Library. On Monday evenings in February, you and your families can learn about local black inventors, artists, and leaders. Also, every Tuesday evening in February from 6-6:30 pm, there is a story time highlighting black joy.
