Principal's Message
Dear Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion families,
I hope everyone is well. The second round of i-Ready testing in English Language Arts (grades 2nd-5th) and Math (grades 1st-5th) is happening over the next two weeks. As you know, iReady is one of the ways we measure students progress and also individualizes students lessons in "My Path" according to the results. It is important that students take these test seriously so they can get a more accurate "My Path" configuration. The i-Ready Diagnostic is given three times over the school year (Fall, Winter, Spring) district wide. The assessment information helps teachers plan and design instruction and also helps to group students. The diagnostic will also tailor and differentiate i-Ready lessons for students on "My Path"based on the results. Students may access the i-Ready My Path and Teacher assigned lessons via Clever. It is recommended that students complete 60-100 minutes weekly of the i-Ready lessons. Here is a short video from Curriculum Associates for parents: iReady video for parents.
I want to wish a very Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to all of our Adelante Selby students, families, staff, and community! Enjoy this fun card from our Office Staff: We would like to wish everyone a Happy Holidays and Feliz Año Nuevo!

4th and 5th grade Danny G Dance Performances at Carrington Hall. Bravo!!
The 4th and 5th grade Danny G Dance Recital at Carrington Hall was a great experience our students will never forget. They had Dance class weekly during the first Trimester with Danny G as part of the Enrichment rotation thanks to everyone's financial support with Unidos PTO. Each class then chose one dance/song to present at Carrington Hall. A very special SHOUT OUT to Danny G who did a great job choreographing(as always) and encouraging the students to do their best, "bring the energy", and to work together for the final presentation. Thank you to Lisa Lowy for recording the dances. Thank you to Jessica McCarthy and other parent volunteers who were selling roses to support next year's 5th grade Outdoor Education Trip. Finally, a very special SHOUT OUT to parent volunteer Michelle Smith who booked Carrington Hall, organized the ticket seating, and put together the program. ! Enjoy the recordings below:
- Maestra Rita's Class: "The Animal Dance", music: Animal Chuki
- Maestra Lily's Class:"!Baila!", music: Yo Las Pongo, Los Tucanes De Tijuana
- Maestra Bravo's Class: "Let's Play", music: Shakira
- Maestro Jose Manuel's Class: "Represent", music: La Gozadera, Gente De Zona
- Maestra Elanor's Class: "The Bombie Samba", music: from the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Musical
- Maestra Jeannette's Class: "The Limbo", music: Limbo, Daddy Yankee
5th Grade Outdoor Education Trip January 22- 26th
The 5th grade students will be attending Outdoor Education at YMCA Camp Jones Gulch, near La Honda, during the week of January 22, 2024. Outdoor Education is one of the most memorable experiences of a child’s school years. The students experience the life science standards taught by attending classes, taking field trips, hiking and experiencing the natural environment, and they bond with classmates. The outdoor education naturalists provide a fun, educational, and interactive week of activities. You can also go to the Outdoor Education website at http://www.smcoe.org/learning-and-leadership/outdoor-education/, where you can read about the naturalists and program provided.

New TK/Kindergarten Registration 2024/25 and Tours
The School District Enrollment and School of Choice for 2024/25 TK/Kindergarten opened on November 2nd and continues through Friday, January 19th at 3:00pm. It is important that both the Registration/Enrollment Form for your home school(based on your address) and the School of Choice Form for Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion must be completed by January 19th. Current PreSchool students here on our campus and siblings of students who are currently enrolled here and at Kennedy in the Spanish immersion strand have priority acceptance as long as the forms are completed on time by January 19th. Please complete this Adelante Selby Sibling 2024/25 Form so we can alert the District to prioritize your acceptance for next year.
Please help get the word out to family, friends, and neighbors about our weekly informational TK/Kindergarten Tours that meet in person at the school office every Thursday at 8:40AM and the tours will continue through the end of January. Please register for a TK/Kindergarten Tour with this form: TK/Kindergarten Tour Registration. Promoting our school by "word of mouth" from parents and community members is the best way to "market" our school and immersion program to prospective new parents. When promoting our school, keep in mind that mastering two or more languages has enormous benefits for our students, both native speakers of English and native speakers of the target language(Spanish) at a dual language immersion school. Other talking points when talking about our school are that research has confirmed the benefits of biliteracy and bilingualism that are demonstrated as brain and cognitive functioning, academic, economic, and social advantages, as well as cross-cultural competency and supporting a stronger family cohesion and connection to their family heritage.
Luminarias: An Adelante Selby Tradition
Luminarias are used throughout the world to light windows, sidewalks, and streets during the holiday season. As a bilingual and bicultural Spanish Immersion school, the families of Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion want to share this tradition with you. We invite you to participate in Luminaria Night on Thursday, December 21st, the shortest and darkest day of the year, by placing your luminarias for all to see, as well as going on a walk to see other luminarias in your neighborhood.
Please purchase your luminarias by Friday, December 15 for pick up on Saturday, December 16 from 5:30-8:30 pm at the Red Morton Light Show or Monday, December 18 from 4:30-6:30 pm at Adelante Selby near the office.

2023 Walk-A-Thon “Walk On The Wild Side - Caminemos Hacia Una Aventura” Fundraiser
Hello Alebrijes and Famillies,
Thank you to all of the donors and volunteers that helped make the 2023 Walk-A-Thon a fun and successful event! Our community surpassed our fundraising goal and raised $39,731 - a new record for this event with over 67% participation! GO ALEBRIJES!!!
The money raised will go towards funding all of our PTO sponsored programs (Dance with Danny G, Garden, Field Trips, and more!).
We would like to congratulate Maestra Nancy Gonzales’ first grade class for raising the most money! It was a tight race and in the end they pulled ahead - raising $3,200! Each student will receive a gift certificate to Corner Yogurt and Maestra Nancy will receive a $100 gift card for her classroom Amazon wish list. Walk-a-thon T-shirts will be distributed in the next few weeks if your child made a donation.
Thank you to our Adelante Staff, especially Jose Luna and Director Warren for their continued support and help.

Child Nutrition Services: Breakfast and Lunch Menus
A healthy body fosters a healthy and focused mind. Well-rounded meals served in RCSD school cafeterias are created using USDA nutrition guidelines as well as “kid-approved” recipes. Whole grains, milk, fresh produce, protein, and healthy fats containing Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are the stars of the breakfast and lunch menu items. Studies show that good eating habits and healthy behaviors are connected to academic achievement. Meals provided by Child Nutrition Services help to shape lifelong healthy habits. All students have the opportunity to eat breakfast and lunch for free again this year through our Child Nutrition Services.
Here are the menus for August(you can use the same links for the September Menu which is not available yet):
